Re: Aresco Says AAC Will Expand
IMO the object was to add quality schools that have major or at least mid-major markets. Now, denton does not compare with San Antonio, it does not compare with Houston, it does not compare with Birmingham, and it does not compare with Charlotte. It is just a little dumpy town with a nothing school ...

Look at that research expenditure difference. Also, going to preempt any "but the size difference" arguments because I had the same debate earlier about UNT & SMU's SAT difference, can't have it both ways. Also, this underscores what I meant by the difference between SMU and Rice -- Rice is a ...

Re: Aresco Says AAC Will Expand
I get it, I think UNT is a fine school. But don’t compare it to SMU academically. There’s no basis, and I’m not presuming that SMU is this great academic powerhouse because we’re not. We have a lot of limitations. But I do believe SMU is the second best private university in Texas, and for those ...

Re: Aresco Says AAC Will Expand
I know you disagree, and it's called being delusional. Take an objective metric such as average SAT scores.

UNT - 1155. You're similar academic quality to Middle Tennessee and UTSA.

SMU is 1390. Rice is 1520.

Re: Aresco Says AAC Will Expand
As someone who went to a top 10 university and recently got another graduate degree (somebody stop me!) from my local state commuter school ranked in the 240s, I have seen first hand the difference in academic quality and anyone who thinks schools ranked down are anything but four more years of ...

Re: Aresco Says AAC Will Expand
Still think the expansion to 14 and the inclusion of UNT is weird and duplicative. Like I said before Aresco may be planning a conference without SMU and Memphis.
Two teams in the metroplex is duplicative but you also want into the Big 12? What do you call it then?
For the record, I don't think ...

Yes, it is.
When you don't complain about UTSA and then try and bash UNT you show how ridiculous you are and start looking like someone who is worried about what happens if UNT and SMU are in the same conference ...

Re: Aresco Says AAC Will Expand
getting UTSA and UNT on the same conference is not just bad for SMU but it's bad for the rest of the American. Those schools are poor academic schools, and they don't have the benefit that even a UCF adds to Florida. It's just taking multiple steps back.

Re: Aresco Says AAC Will Expand
Basically in summary from the NTCC side and fully agree:
1) this benefits NTCC
2) this hurts SMU
That sums it up and why you are seeing the reaction and why I hope that big money donors put it towards blocking this part of the expansion.
Side note: we play you OOC for the easy win to get things ...

Re: Aresco Says AAC Will Expand
SMU has strong alumni networks in every major American city and several international cities. People come to SMU from all over, and the alumni live all over. Cant say the same about UNT but I will give you a comparable network size and scope in DFW and maybe throughout Texas. No point in comparing ...

Re: Aresco Says AAC Will Expand
Going to chime in as a UNT fan here because some of these comments are ridiculous. I have two family members who played at SMU who have nothing but respect for the program. They had always seen them as cross town rivals. Why are some of you so concerned about playing UNT in football once a year ...
