Re: Sun Bowl possibility?

I know a very large booster for UTEP who tells me that the Sun Bowl absolutely wanted SMU, but the response was that coaches and players had already left. Too bad, national TV on CBS and a decent payout. I guess the program has plenty of money, IΓÇÖll remind them of that when the Mustang Club comes ...

Oregon State Bringing Back Track and Field

Oregon State is making a strong commitment to bringing back Men's and Women's Track and Field.

Note the remarks from Oregon State Coach Mike Riley:
I"t will have a great impact on football, but track has a special place for all athletes,” he said. “It brings life to a university. Every ...

Re: SMU Hall of Fame: who should be next?

Not sure how you can leave out Ted McLaughlin. He won 3 national titles (not Wollman as previously posted) as the head Track and Field coach and coached Michael Carter among numerous other All Americans.

I honestly don't know how you can have a Hall of Fame with any coaches in it if you don't first ...

Agreed, he is a good coach. But Ted McLaughlin produced 3 national championships at SMU for Track and Field. I'd say he gets the honor as best coach in history.

Thanks for the link Dooby. Seems we are about in the middle of the pack for compliance. On a good note however, it looks like we are beating TCU in something anyway. Maybe we can get the skillet back for that.

I will second that Eaststang

I don't know if these figures are even available, but does anyone know what percentage of D1 schools are in compliance with Title IX. Also, when was the last time the Justice Department enforced Title IX at a school? Do you think the Justice Department would go after ...

Fair enough Eaststang. I don't agree with you on the Title IX issue. I think Copeland used it as a convenient excuse to find more money to spend on Football and Basketball. I (and about 10 others) met with Copeland last Friday morning and his Title IX argument didn't really make any sense. The Act ...

Eaststang: You seem like a real bright guy, but I have noticed on several of these threads that you are shooting down a lot of arguments but aren't really giving any thoughts on what you would do to improve things. Do you think we should stay with the status quo and just hope things get better ...

Well Peruna88, You just keep believing that and keep making those calls and I am sure it will be all better soon--we have no reason to believe it won't be.

Peruna88: In the past, I have actually worked the phones-- several years in a row-- for the Mustang Club. Was even a team captain for the Morgan Campaign. It was frustrating making those calls, no doubt about it. You are lucky this year now that all the right moves have been made by Copeland (new ...

Dooby, Eastang--Sure, I will admit that anything I say will be hearsay about Copeland and UVA so why bother. It's not that relavant anyway. I don't want that argument to diminish the point I am trying to make on this thread. If you want to deal in facts then why don't you give me a counterargument ...

Dooby, I suggest you check your sources a bit. He was on his way out at UVA--no question about it. Think about it, why would you leave a job at UVA to go to SMU given the state of our program (even though he has managed to make it even worse).

I think you are missing the point UNF. Sure, I am pissed about the Track decision. But it is more than just that that brings Copeland into question. I think the issue is that he hasn't done anything for Athletics at SMU since he has gotten here and last time I checked, he is the ATHLETIC Director ...

Jim Copeland should pay the price for losing Track and Field

It is time for Jim to be fired. This guy keeps pointing out the problems (no alum support, no attendance at rev sports, low conference payout) that led to the Track decision and says he can't understand why? Well, I will tell you why. Because he isn't doing the job. He is in charge of the Sports ...
