Re: Reflections of the morning after of a 45-10 *ss whippin'

From a Class of '56 member.

I have been a participant and SMU football fan for more than 50 years. In my opinion, the Hawaii Bowl win is the most significant victory for SMU during that time. The DP is behind us.

I really enjoy PonyFans. com because young guys keep me in the game.

Thank you ...

Re: Push to sell tickets to donate to AFB

Don't give up on the commemorative ticket.

I just had a visit with Quinn to donate my tickets to the Air Force. He informed me the powers that be are giving condideration to some type of commerative for donors of tickets. A printer copy of a ticket would be fine with me. If they hear from enough ...

Re: Question for those that have been to Hawaii before

My origional post here was to point out that you didn't need to buy a bus pass to traverse Oahu.
One or two couples can have a great time going around the island in a car. Get a tour map and plan to spend the day taking in all the beauty of Oahu. Be sure to pull into Turtle Bay Resort for a ...

Re: Question for those that have been to Hawaii before

Riding time. Take the east bound bus for the best ocean views. My time estimate is about 1:30 to North Shore and 1:30 back to Ala Moana Shoping Center. The shoping Center is about 4 blocks from Hilton Hawaian Village which is the west end of Waikiki Beach.

The bus ride is great for getting over ...

Re: Question for those that have been to Hawaii before

The Bus is the best way to see Ohau. If you don't buy a pass, which gives you unlimited access, pay the $2 fare and go around the island. You get one transfer and you can hop off at the North Shore and hop back on the next bus and continue to see the whole island. Catch the Bus in the north side of ...

Re: Question for those that have been to Hawaii before

You will not be able to see or do much in one day. To and from airports plus a round of golf will take most of a day.

Maui or Lanani for golf
Kauai for 1 day sight seeing
Hawaii need 4 or 5 days to enjoy
Molokai last choice

I was at SMU in the mid 50's. We had a pitcher named Malcom Bauer. He played in the Big League, but I don't remember which team. The Athletic Dorm was just north of Armstrong Field beside the SAE house. All Scholarship Athletes stayed there. Baseball was a significant sport in the Southwest ...

Doak played before steroids (BS), and he played at about 175 lbs. He was an all around athlete that chose football as his game.

No one in present day sports can even come close to him as a natural athlete and human being.

I followed Doak and Kyle to SMU. They were true heros. Someone kids ...

Raymond Berry was elected Captain because he was the most dedicated player on the team. He was a junior college transfer from Schriner Institute (now University) in Kerrville. When he joined the team, he was a real quite, skinny guy with big hands and feet. He was very serious about football, not ...

As I recall Broyles anounced he was interested in SMU. I believe he was a successful coach somewhere, I can't remember where. He had a winning reputation and well liked.

The team wanted Broyles bad. We were shocked when Matty Bell told us a guy we never heard of from Wichita, Kansas ...

ozfan,
You are correct, Rusty Russel did go to SMU from Highland Park. Matty Bell hired Rusty because he was the premier single wing coach in Texas at the time. Matty became Athletic Director in 1950 and Rusty, Football Head Coach.

You are a long way from Dallas. Rusty Russel and Sleepy Morgan ...

Frank Broyles applyed for the SMU job after Rusty Russel was fired in 1952. Frank begged for the job but the great Matty Bell hired Woody Woodard instead. Woody submitted his application on a post card from Wichita, Kansas and was hired because he was cheap and would not upstage Matty.

SMU had ...
