Re: Rules changes for 2025

So defenses can still fake injuries, they just have to do it fast?

Re: One month out...Ceiling and Floor for SMU this year...

I agree with JasonB.

The ACC looks stronger this year. Clemson, Miami, Louisville, GA Tech, Syracuse, Duke, North Carolina ( what is the upside for them with Bill Belichick?) and SMU will be very competitive.

8)

UNC will be better this year, though that is not saying much. Their record SHOULD ...

Re: One month out...Ceiling and Floor for SMU this year...

Well played, malonish.

I guess I'm on board with peruna91's ceiling, but I'm a more paranoid fan, I guess, so I worry that the floor could be lower. In a worst-case scenario (and this doesn't even include major injuries to key players), any of the following teams COULD beat us: TCU, Baylor ...

Re: UNC going to the SEC?

I don't think UNC gives two schidts about Duke football. They could still play Duke in basketball every year.
You have never been to a UNC-Dook football game. That damned Victory Bell game has meaning. I hate losing that bell as much as I hate Rat-Face. And I am far from alone in that.
I agree ...

Re: UNC going to the SEC?

UNC making any move without NCSU might cause some friction in the NC General Assembly
The days of legislatures protecting other state institutions are over. The *most* uNC might have to do is give some financial support, a la UCLA and UC Berkeley, but even that is unlikely. Texas got to leave ...

Re: Memphis tries SMU-like pitch to Big 12, fails

Memphis has a ton of corporate money ( Fedex etc ) behind them
that Tulane does not. The community is also behind the Tigers. Win
win for the Big 12 imho but Yormark has never struck me as that
bright.
SMU succeeded with guaranteed billionaire-funding. Corporate dollarsΓÇöespecially publicly ...

Re: Memphis tries SMU-like pitch to Big 12, fails

I actually feel bad for Memphis. As Charleston Pony said, they have consistently punched above their weight in football and basketball. They deserve to move up to a power conference.
I feel bad for Tulane, who have won a fair amount and are also a respectable institution in a world-class city ...

Re: See what Rhett Lashlee had to say at ACC Football Kickof

Lashlee is a great ambassador for SMU and speaks well in these spots. Able to speak a little louder this year after 2024 season. Hope we get the respect in the room and in the internal meetings with conference mates.
The Duke Basketball Report (which maintains a longstanding name but actually ...

Re: Memphis tries SMU-like pitch to Big 12, fails

Tulane has been good in football over the last 4-5 years, but before that they were occasionally mediocre, and often terrible. Tulane's basketball team has not been to the NIT since 2000, although this year they went to the Crown tournament, which I guess is on par with the NIT(?). Not sure how ...

Memphis tries SMU-like pitch to Big 12, fails

Even with a clause allowing the league to dump them in a few years if they donΓÇÖt bring value.

One reason it failed is how pathetic the other American-to-Big 12 programs have been, except for Houston MBB.

Re: Phil Steele Predicts ACC FB in 2025

I would feel better at 5 or 6.
Well, it might make you feel better that another site has released "this is what Phil Steele predicts" and SMU is 3rd, not 2nd. Weird situation. The link below does link to Phil's site, but I can't read behind Phil's paywall--still, that seems maybe more ...

Re: NIL Collective

I would assume, but I have no idea, that they need small donors to give to the revenue sharing, and the Sewells of the world to support NIL so that the NIL payments pass Deloitte's review. We are heading back to the world where Tarkanian said the NCAA was so mad at Kentucky that they were going to ...

Re: NIL Collective

According to the website, collectives are still in business with NIL deals.
"NIL deals with businesses who wish to partner with SMU student-athletes; these agreements will remain in place and are separate from revenue-sharing payments. The Student-Athlete Benefit Fund gives SMU student-athletes an ...
