SMU YETI Cooler | Licensing Question

Postby SMU1523 » Thu Aug 15, 2013 1:23 pm

Preparing for Boulevarding this season, I want to purchase a YETI. I logged on to their site and looked through their collegiate editions. I found Texas, TAMU, Tech and TCU, but did not find SMU. What would it take for SMU to license out their logo for YETI to sale? Who do I need to email? I imagine SMU fans would purchase this cooler because we are a fan base that spends more on tailgating than most fan bases across the country...

I have heard rumors that we are a difficult school to deal with when it comes to licensing. I do not know how much validity there is to that rumor. Any direction to making this happen would help...

Thanks!

I belive Brad Sutton in the athletic department is the right guy to speak with about this. I have also heard the "SMU is difficult to work with" is old news and no longer the case.

Also Mitch Witten in external affairs is a resource if you get stonewalled.

While you are at it - ask him about corn hole (bean bag game). Was looking for us on line for one of those and only saw big state schools.

I am guessing on this based on a couple of marketing classes from way back when. Yeti probably has to make and sell X amount in order for this particular product to be profitable maybe they don't think that happens with the SMU brand on a Yeti. I hope that is not the case, I would certainly buy one.

I don't think I have ever paid $300-$500 for a cooler.

Never head of Yeti - they must be nice coolers...

People have claimed to see them but it is
not believed by most that they even really exist.

It really is worth it in certain situations. I have one that I used to use on our offshore/bay fishing boats. Kept the ice all day, may have even froze the beer.

SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Brad Sutton said they would need a simple request from YETI. If you are interested in purchasing a SMU YETI Cooler please send them a note via their request form (link below).

If they see interest in a SMU Cooler from our fan base they will probably contact SMU for licensing and start producing them...

Make sure to set up financing arrangements with your banker prior to purchase.
