Well, I must say this was definitely a very exciting past weekend for college football fans. UT does its job in Columbus in my very biased opinion was one of the best college football games of recent memory. As I flipped back and forth between the Texas/tOSU game and the SMU/TCU game I took a few mental notes that I would now like to share with the crowd.
- SMU looked like a very much different team than the teams I've seen in person in the past few season. There were athletic plays being made all over the field and the team did just enough to keep TCU confused all evening so they could never get anything positive started. Nice work.
- Jared (sp?) Romo is a scrappy mofo. He's pretty fun to watch. He kinda reminds me of a guy that played at Texas a few years ago - Major Applewhite. However, Romo doesn't have bionic knees and can actually move around in the pocket and can make good things happen with his feet. I don't really see Romo being a bigtime college or NFL QB, but he's definitely got great heart. There were several plays where I thought he was going to get completely creamed and he made something good happen. I still miss seeing Phillips play, but I'll take Romo on a good day over Phillips on a bad day.
- I hope the WR that missed the sure TD (forget his name) catch just before the half doesn't beat himself up too much. More plays like that will come his way.
- The defense looked surpisingly agile. The pass rush was exceptional and the DB's just almost always seemed like they were in the right place at the right time. I attribute this to good coaching, make of that what you will.
- This wasn't just a squeaker win. This was a good, old-fashioned ass-whooping. TCU looked like they were completely outclassed and outplayed on all sides of the ball. Congrats to the team.
SMU will have to avoid a hangover from this win if they stand any chance of beating Aggy. As I predicted before the season started, aTm will not be the juggernaut many thought they would be. They'll be good, but I still see them placing 4th in the Big XII south. However, if they get a big win over an improved SMU squad it could boost their confidence enough to make a bigger impact this season.
I think SMU has a realistic chance of baeting Aggy, at least based on what I saw this past weekend. If they can play with that intensity and discipline, it could be a long day for the Ags.
I expect aTm to underestimate SMU somewhat, despite the big win. They won't be looking ahead because they have Texas State and Baylor, but they may simply not be expecting much from SMU.
SMU will have to play their best ball of the season to hang with the Ags, but I think they can do it. I'm not going to predict a win because I simply don't know what to expect from SMU this weekend. I just hope the same team shows up.
Well, I don't know if any of that made any semblance of since because it was pretty much stream-of-consciousness, but hey, take it for what you will.
Thadfilms and I and a few others will be making the treck to College Station for the game. If any of you are planning on attending, let us know and maybe we can meet up beforehand to have a big courage shot before the game! Heh.
How sweet would it be for Thad to roll into DKR later in the day with his SMU jersey on after beating the Ags? Man, that would be sweet.
Doug, out.

A&M committed mistake after mistake after mistake, and still only lost by one point in DEATH VALLEY to a seasoned and well coached Clemson team. We should have beaten them by 14-20 points if we don't drop a ball here, holding penalty on a TD there. We rushed for 260 yards against Clemson in the Valley, we will rush for over 300 against SMU.
A&M will reel off 7 straight wins before they have to go to Lubbock.
Just because we lost our first game, doesn't mean jack. You obviously didn't watch it close enough.
With that said, congrats on the win in CBus and congrats to the Stangs for beating a scrappy TCU squad. I hope for a well fought game, and no injuries.
I also hope for Texas to be undefeated when they come into Kyle, cause lord knows that place will be an insane madhouse if the horns do so.

If I was the ags I'd rotate the o-line like Baylor did, only I'd start running the ball in the first quarter, and never stop. I don't see us stopping them on the ground. Not for 60 mins, anyway.

unlike the past 5 years, our O-Line is very experienced and very good with solid depth. Our starting 5 average 315 lbs.
