After the 2013 season, he had shoulder surgery that left him wondering if he would heal in time to take part in SMU's Pro Day, when he could try to impress NFL scouts. But Pope chose another route, declining to declare for the NFL draft and going through spring workouts at SMU with the hopes of earning an extra season of eligibility.
