Learning still main focus for Bengals' Hunt
By Coley Harvey | ESPN.com

April, 29, 2014

The Bengals expect more out of second-year defensive linemen Margus Hunt this season.
CINCINNATI -- Until January, Margus Hunt had only a working knowledge of what a jab, hook, cross and uppercut were.

He didn't know much about his nickname, Ivan Drago, either. He still doesn't, even after months of boxing lessons and in-ring endurance training.

Drago, for those uninitiated to the American cult classic that is the "Rocky" movie franchise, is a fictional boxer whose athletic prowess was honed in Russian labs in 1985's "Rocky IV". The 6-foot-8, 280-pound Hunt reminds many of Drago.

I hope Margus has a breakout season. He may still be a year away, but I feel like he will get there eventually. It will be great to have a 'Stang racking up QB crunches.

Seems kind of strange to me that with a kid trying to learn the defensive end position you'll be teaching him yet another sport: boxing. That's like telling an American, hey come learn cricket, and we'll start you out by teaching you golf.

I thought it was more for conditioning, with minimal actual boxing instruction.
Either way, I agree with JoeKidd that Margus might be another year away. But once he figures it all out, I wouldn't want to be a QB on the Bengals' schedule.

In the Bengals game I saw, when the field goal block team came out Hunt wasn't even in there. Call me crazy, but it seems like he'd be good to use in that situation.

They had another defensive end (Michael Johnson) who is the same height, or close to it. Johnson left last month via free agency, so maybe the Eastern Block fills that role this year for the Bengals?
