Myerberg College Football Countdown | No. 100: SMUhttp://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/2014/05/19/smu-southern-methodist-june-jones-2014-preview-roster-schedule-football-four/9215529/
June Jones inked a three-year contract extension with SMU last December, one that will keep the Mustangs' winningest coach in decades with the program through 2017, should he so choose. Well, therein lies the rub: Jones' future lies in his own hands, giving him the option of hanging around through 2017 or hitting the road after one last run, taking the next plane or bus leaving Dallas after seven years of program-building refurbishment. That his next step seems so uncertain is, well, typical June Jones. good read

Re: Myerberg College Football Countdown | No. 100: SMU$10M invested in June Jones so that in year six we are #100 in the country. VOMIT.

Re: Myerberg College Football Countdown | No. 100: SMU"So I see an eight-loss season, as painful as that sounds. The question that comes next: Is this Jones' final season with the program? If he can cobble together a productive quarterback and find answers on the ground, the Mustangs may very well exceed expectations; if so, it'll be hard to imagine Jones not returning for a run at the American title in 2015, when this still-growing team should take a step forward. But you have to wonder if SMU and Jones are ready for change, with movement on the sidelines perhaps breathing life into a program and fan base somewhat stuck in neutral.
Dream season: SMU bounces back in a big way, topping TCU in September and taking six league games to end the regular season with eight wins. Nightmare season: The Mustangs plummet to 2-10."
Re: Myerberg College Football Countdown | No. 100: SMUIt is painful to read. I really hope we can have a dream season (8 Wins, beating TCU)...but odds of that are shrinking. This might be June's last stand so we will see..
In the meantime, while football gets its act together (possibly a new coach too), we have Mudiay and a Final Four contender.
Re: Myerberg College Football Countdown | No. 100: SMUI will give June some credit that he is trying to scrape together a competitive roster before the season starts with the transfer of the QB Matt Davis and the LB from Rice. Given how little depth we have because of several poor recruiting classes June and the staff are at least hustling to patch together a team that gives us a shot at competing in the AAC. If June allows Davis to be the athlete he is and not try to turn him into a cigar store Indian in the pocket then his improvisational ability to extend plays will give us an added dimension offensively. A true dual threat QB can level the playing field against superior competition. Hopefully Davis is that kind of X factor. If he can come in here and win the job and get SMU out of non-conference at 1-3 then I could see us potentially finishing strong in our garbage conference at 6-6 or 7-5.

Re: Myerberg College Football Countdown | No. 100: SMU
June cannot roll over to BU and Texas A&M, we have to play them as strong as we play TCU. Last year he gave up the A&M game without a fight and we got destroyed/embarrased.
Re: Myerberg College Football Countdown | No. 100: SMUWe will see what sort of team we have in Week 2. With the opening of the new stadium and the excitement of a Top 10 team the Bears will have every reason to mudhole little ol' SMU. That said, if we go up to UNT and lay an egg then I think you can fully expect a 3 or 4 win season. UNT is the swing game for the year IMO. If we can go up there and win it then we will likely put ourselves in position to win 6 games. If we lose I think it sends the signal to everyone that this year will be a stinker.

Re: Myerberg College Football Countdown | No. 100: SMUNorth Tx. will be jacked out of thier minds when we play them!
Re: Myerberg College Football Countdown | No. 100: SMUDoesn't really matter now, we are a basketball school. Come on November!

Re: Myerberg College Football Countdown | No. 100: SMUOur path to national relevance is more readily available as a basketball school but I hope we never abandon the aspiration to field a quality football team.
Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: Myerberg College Football Countdown | No. 100: SMUI wouldn't be surprised if he found a way to sneak 6 wins out of this thing. The AAC has its share of gimmes. The question will be if SMU can win a couple of 50-50 games.
Re: Myerberg College Football Countdown | No. 100: SMUCan't wait for the price & donation increases for 2015............
