Eckerd or Romowhat's your opinion should Romo keep playing 1st string QB or Eckerd?
Right.
I feel MUCH better about Eckert -- he looked calm and poised out there, and his throws were mostly dead-on. But Romo played very well. A&M did a good job controlling his running ability, but he threw the ball better than he ever has since he's been at SMU. Both QBs had passes dropped. But again, I feel a whole lot better about the QB play going into the Tulane game than I dida couple of weeks ago. Go PONIES!
Eckert was MUCH better than he was against Baylor. He looked more poised and seemed to have better balance when he threw … and his throwing motion seemed much better. He planted his feel quickly, and his accuracy was much better. He and Romo both had passes dropped, but I feel a LOT better about the QB position than I did two weeks ago.
But Romo also played well -- what did he have, 200 yards today? 250? I can't remember him throwing the ball as well as he did today. No need to change starters.
Between the bomb Givens dropped against TCU, the longg touchdown to Chase yesterday and the long (dropped) pass to Givens yesterday, Romo is throwing the deep ball much better. That, plus his running ability, means he should remain the starter. But like WildHorse, I was very encouraged by Eckert, too. He had a really rough day against Baylor, and looked much better yesterday.
Rise up, Mustang Nation!
Go SMU!
Givens has dropped two potential touchdowns, and I don't think he has a catch yet. I still have every reason to believe he has a ton of talent and might well become a great player. But he seems to be a freshman-in-the-headlights at the moment. Is it too late to put the redshirt back on? Or are we too far into the season? As far as I know, he just has one carry on the end-around against Baylor (or maybe it was TCU -- don't remember). Am I crazy to suggest this?
The redshirt was gone after the first play he ran. He appears to be a good talent. Hopefully he can concentrate on catching the ball.
Stick with RomoBoth young men seem to be good young men and each have different talents. But Romo has shown more versatility and gives our offense a bit more depth. They both seem to be quality men and I am proud that both are Mustangs, but I think we stick with Romo for the season.
Support the Commitment! We're all SMU Mustangs fans- we should all be committed!
romo is the starter... no question... Its alot easier to "look" good when your team is down by 60 points.. (eckert).. (and playing against A&M's scout team)..Romo played fantastic the first half.(Probably the most poise on the team) But when receivers don;t catch, and the o-line doesnt remember snap counts, bad things happen. Romo has poise, good arm, fast, and can make things happen... he is a winner
Romo should remain the starter. He did the best he could with the way our recievers were playing. He threw the ball deep and did well plus he moved when he needed to move. Eckert did improve a little, but as it was stated earlier, he was playing against a much weaker defense.
The heat, dropped passes, and missed tackles are the reasons why the Mustangs played the way they did. There's always next week to look forward to...and I still think the Mustangs will get quite a few wins. All it takes is one time for something great to happen...
I think this is a "no-brainer" at this point. Romo has improved week after week. Let's see how he looks against more comparable talent. And let's see if he finally hooks up with Givens on a home run ball this week.
