He does have a point in that this is a fan forum, and we should all have that in common. It's kind of getting embarrassing beating up on him.

Those are interesting numbers he posted, the origin is suspect, but we(SMU) have either made them look favorable or the context is such....

If someone has something further to add, I would be interested in hearing it, since I myself do not know why it appears we have such high revenue.

Also that link doesn't seem very legitimate, has anybody found these numbers from another source?
it was explained to him, he just isn't interested in listening or asking useful questions, he is arguing on a subject that he knows he knows nothing about. Just posting wildly ignorant posts all over the place from day one bogging every thread down to subjects already discussed in detail 100 times on pony fans.

You are wrong. Nothing was explained, Stallion posted a theory on why revenues are that way and then put a link out there to try and reinforce his point. And I never argued about anything. Please read my posts before posting an automatic hateful response.

ITS NOT A THEORY-got it? I've been around this program for 50 years and I know what's going on unlike you. Read the Daily Campus article-it quotes our AD at the time that confirms that the numbers are accurate. It clearly describes a budgetary subsidy to the SMU athletic program from the university. This ain't a secret to anyone following SMU football for any period of time. This was a compromise made by Dr. Turner several years ago that added certain expectations that Mustang Club donations were supposed to pick up any deficit after this subsidy was contributed by the university. Why are you arguing with someone who actually knows what's going on at SMU. Just shut up about topics you know nothing about. Here are some of the relevant excerpts:

"Instead, they consider it a BUDGETARY UNIVERSITY SUBSIDY – an investment that brings national exposure.(emphasis added)"
-----------
"According to a prepared statement issued through SMU’s Office of Public Affairs, Chris Regis, vice president for business and finance said, “Athletics does not operate with a deficit, rather is SUPPORTED AT AN ACCEPTABLE LEVEL FROM INSTITUTIONAL RESOURCES as they do bring significant value to the university.(emphasis added)”
---------------------
Regis said that tuition is just one of numerous REVENUE sources that support the university, including annual giving from donors, interest income and endowment income."(emphasis added)

"Orsini has also created a group of wealthy boosters called the “Circle of Champions” to support the athletic program."

If you still want to argue explain how you get to 52 Million in 2013

20,000 per football game x 6 games x maybe $70 per ticket (very liberal)-$8,400,000 (est)

2,000 per basketball games x 18 games x $25 per ticket- $900,000 (est)

minimal CUSA TV revenue and bowl revenue-2-3 Million

approximately 8 million dollars in Mustang Club donations

substantial revenue from Priority seats and Boulevard rental

SMU is probably around at a maximum $20-30 million in actually revenues counting Coaches salary as donations which I believe are included in the Mustang Club numbers. I mean do you actually go to SMU Football and Basketball and think we produced 52 Million in revenue???????????????

Rutgers is another school that hugely subsidizes their athletic dept. I don't think they were anywhere near $71 million in pure athletic revenue.
Lots of schools do this - it is hopefully a good investment in the university.

Thanks for the clarification. I did not mean to stir a fight. I saw revenue numbers that put us in at #2 in the AAC and got excited. TCU says they make $71M in revenue. I highly doubt that they make that amount from just football tickets. Tuition is comparable, so $250K x 120(est) football and basketball scholarship athletes = 30M which would help explain a lot...and bridge that gap between your 30M estimate and that $52M.

Not many programs make money off athletics, in fact, probably everyone else does the same thing SMU does and claims donations and scholarships as revenues.

Question for anyone: how much do you think SMU makes from SMU merchandise?

Yes, I am a troll because I try to be optimistic and think about the best case scenarios for SMU. Thanks Couch em.

I'm thinking the fan shop at Moody Coliseum made about $20.
