Re: Updated heights and weightsIn the late 90's and early 00's there was no training table, you were at the mercy of the on-campus cafeteria's, which are not conducive with the athletes early morning/late night schedules. The only time you could be guaranteed to be open at the right hours were during training camp when it was set-up for the FB team.
It seems like in the past 4-5 years we have had guys making and keeping appropriate weight gains, but this summer seems to be off...don't know why. True Frosh are not a product obviously of the strength/nutrition program. #Beat Clemson

Re: Updated heights and weights
Everything you just said in the first 2 sentences is true TODAY. I know for a fact that the cafeteria hours don't always match up with their football schedules and they have to scramble to Subway or have some food in a mini-fridge (out of their own pocket) so they're not missing meals. This is why you hear some of these kids complaining about not having enough to eat. On the surface it seems ridiculous but this is the problem.
Re: Updated heights and weightsWe had a good athletic hall dining area in my day but they cannot man something like that 24 hours. We just went across the street to the 7-11, or if broke took a quick tour of the Mrs. Bairds factory and got free hot buttered bread at the end. They got to know us quite we'll about 2:00am a couple of times a week.
Have we gotten to a point that young men do not know how to eat without someone shoveling it down their throats? All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: Updated heights and weights
Didn't we have that pantry at The Cambridge?
Re: Updated heights and weights
There is no such thing as an 'athletic dining hall' today. Cafeteria for football players and the general student population all the same. I don't disagree that kids should be able to scrounge for some hot buttered bread at 2am, but this is a different era. Training tables, nutritionists, etc, etc are the future of the P5. If we want to aspire to that level and recruit and compete, either make the commitment or not. If not, no problem. State it publicly and then people can dial back the expectations of us beating Baylor, TCU, or A&M, and we can focus on competing against the rest of our conference. I WOULD PERSONALLY LOVE FOR US TO RECRUIT AND COMPETE AGAINST THE BEST, just not sure it's realistic being outspent 10-1 and the P5 gaining more power by the day?
Re: Updated heights and weightsThe athletes know how to eat. Just takes a little effort. The lack of the right food is not the problem. The training table back in the eighties was the cafeteria. Quit making excuses for these atheletes. Sure its a new era. The same era that these athletes have grown up in. They know exactly what it takes to get to the level they desire to acheive. At some point you have to take some personal responsibility. Can't be spoon fed everything.
Re: Updated heights and weights
No excuses, and as a parent I totally agree on some level. But in the real world, and in the midst of the hyper competitive college football landscape, you either keep up with the Joneses (no pun intended) or you get left behind. Hot buttered bread at 2am, or the appropriate mix of protein, carbs & fat at least 3x per day combined with high level weight & speed training supervised by highly educated, specialized staff. If you think 'personal responsibility' and cafeteria food for 100 athletes is going to compete at the highest level, GOOD LUCK with that. What do we actually have vs. our non-P5 & P5 competitors? If others are 'spoon feeding', should we spoon feed? I get where you're coming from, just sayin.
Re: Updated heights and weightsDo we even offer as much as the majority of the other non P-5 schools when it comes to nutrition for the players?
Peruna is my mascot!
Re: Updated heights and weightsYes, they get all the frickin free peanut butter they want! Jeez come on folks. Enough is enough.

Not the same without a whole shelf of hamburger helper "I think Couchem is right."
