An Aggie friend here in Navasota was watching the game with me, and made what I thought was a wise observation (for an Aggie...)
"June Jones is your Dennis Franchione"
His point, the coach had a great reputation, an immediate upside, and yet could not move the program out of his own shadow. Thought it was a telling statement.

For $2 million SMU ought to be able to hire most any other coach they want except The really high salary guys at the football factories schools.

Larry Coker...he can't be making $2mm at utsa.

I think he is making $400K. We could double his salary (or even push it to a cool $1Mil) and have money left for him to build a great staff around him. Not necessarily the worst idea out there.

Clearly he knows how to recruit and how to build a program relatively quickly.
