My answer to your question begins with this assumption. You owe your school loyalty. Owe it. And, by extension, you owe the leadership loyalty - and that includes the head coach. Is it unlimited, unconditional? No. But that loyalty goes a lot farther than most fans today are willing to go in this "what have you done for me lately" culture.
I was disappointed by the ASU thing, but willing to forgive. I do remember the great things JJ has done for this program. But short of a nine-win miracle this year, we need to move on.
Having said all that, I will never attack the guy personally. And I'll never join a group-think lynch mob. There's just no need for it. The results speak for themselves. And some day a mob will come for you.
Loyalty is one thing. But actions speak louder than words.

Question: If June got fired, who is out there that could recruit to a minor league team/division school? Unless John Gruden or Bill Parcells are looking to coach at SMU, it appears we are forever screwed in Football....

We also have a right to demand better and expect better.
We live in a capitalist society whereby people are evaluated based on their performance. You can't give someone a free ride just because you think we owe someone loyalty that doesn't give a damn about our school. Loyalty works both ways. If JJ were working his butt off recruiting and working to make our program better, we would be thrilled.
And this isn't anywhere close to a mob. Can you imagine the treatment he would be receiving from alumns of schools that actually do give two cents about their football program. this is kindergarden treatment and all for $2mm a year. I guess we should just continue to sit around passively and watch another year go as we contiue to fall into complete irrelevance.
We should have fired him after the ASU fiasco, but to have given him an extension was completely unforgivable.

Saying there are worse mobs doesn't make it any less a mob.

I've never attack him personally. I've always heard JJ is a really good guy, and a little a quirky, which I love. But I have attacked his job performance. When you're a public figure and you're the highest paid person at a major university, you have to produce, and you have to act like you want to be there. JJ has done neither the past three years.

Hate to say it, but June generated the mob. Absolutely no good will. When the mob were all calling for Bennett to be fired, most everyone said they respected him and liked him. June doesn't get the same because he never really developed any rapport with the in the stands SMU fan.
I know lots that know him personally, Thaddeus being one, who really like him, but most fans don't know him personally and so make judgements on such things as the leis and him not wearing SMU gear. It may be unfair, but it is natural. Add the negative trend of the program against winning team, and you get torches and pitchforks.

Then we're not too far off.

Not even close to a mob. Just because you crititize doesn't mean it's a mob. So how does this work for you PB? We can't complain about the status of the program because then we aren't loyal? We can't expect our HC to actually have the team prepared because then we're a mob? Please. He deserves to be criticized if he's not doing his job, and we have a right to expect better. What are your expectations for this team? Will we beat UNT? Will we beat TCU? What is your expectations of our record at the end of the season and is that good enough for you year 7 into JJ's tenure? Interested to have your take so that you don't have to tell the rest of us you told us so and what we really should have expected.

Yep. And here's another one for you. Matt Davis will be very, very good if given the chance.

Sonny Cumby. Should be a rising star. Held in high regard as a recruiter and x's and o's coach at Tech...left Tech for TCU, I'm guessing to get out of the shadow of Kool Kliff

This would be a good hire. He's a good recruiter with solid Texas ties, which is where we really need to make inroads.

Loyalty is a two way street. JJ doesn't give a flying F about SMU and it's fans. He complains about the poor turnouts, but where is the thanks for the fans that do show up....regardless of how good or bad the team is playing and even in freeze your butt off weather? You reap what you sow. The team gets my loyalty...JJ not so much.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
