Re: JERRY LeViasI know that he was the first black scholarship athlete in the SWC. Does anyone know if the SEC and/or ACC were integrated at that time period?
Do unto others before they do unto you!!

Re: JERRY LeViasHappy B-Day Dr Jerry LeVias: First Class act and a genuine person ... I enjoy the Spring Golf tournament in his honor. JJ started it (very nice touch), hopefully whomever and whenever JJ is replaced, the next guy continues the tradition.
Jerry LeVias was the Jackie Robinson of his time for the SWC, and it is an honor and privilege for SMU to be attached to his name.

Re: JERRY LeViasJerry Levias was the most exciting football player that I ever saw play. He was
dynamite as a split receiver and electrifying when running back punts. Every time the other team punted the ball to him, you had to hold your breath and watch in anticipation that he could run it back all the way. His quickness and agility were fun to watch. He made Barry Sanders type moves before Barry Sanders played.
Re: JERRY LeVias
The ACC had Darryl Hill a transfer from Navy to Maryland in 1963. The SEC's first black player was Nate Northington of Kentucky in 1967. Now, in basketball I think the first black player in the SWC-- and the first black player in the whole conference -- was at TCU, but I can't recall his name at the moment. EDIT: The TCU player was James Cash but he came after Levias and John Hill Westbrook of Baylor.
