This UTSA team is comparable to the 1992 SMU team that overachieved in SWC

Both had an almost unheard of 39 returning senior letterman. Although recruiting is the most important factor in most cases-overwhelming experience can overcome better teams sometimes especially in these days of limited recruiting classes and revolving rosters. Many teams lack numbers in the Senior class these days. TCU is a good example of a program noted for good recruiting, keeping players eligible and graduating players. The program fell apart when the formula failed

SMU took a step back when their 39 seniors graduated winning a paltry 4 games in the next 3 years-it will be a big test for UTSA to see if they can maintain the program after their Seniors graduate
"With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris

When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.

You are arguing June Jones had it easier because
he had a "prolific upper-classman QB", but June didn't use that QB,
so how did that factor make June's job easier?

He had a high-level option at QB when Coker didn't. I would say that's a positive advantage. The fact that June passed on Willis for a freshman QB doesn't put any sympathy in my heart when it didn't pan out. Just because you squandered your advantage doesn't take away the fact that you had an advantage.

BTW, I was shocked but still pro-Bo when June made that decision. I also took his word as truth that his arm was the best he's ever seen out of high school and that June was an offensive guru. Silly me.

We can agree to disagree about an ill-equipped for the run & shoot Justin Willis sitting on the bench being some kind of advantage for June, but no doubt Bo has fared much better in his football career than Justin Willis.

I'll equipped more than BM? Unlikely. More likely a power demonstration, just like he did year one in Hawaii with their best player, a RB. Backfired this time

June talks about QBs in terms of the ability to throw a bunch, to be accurate, and to make good decisions.
Looking at the stats in Bennett's last year, a 1 win season, Willis threw for 3000 yards and just under 60% completion. Better than any season BLM had in both stats. Similar to Padron in 2010 and McDermott in 2011 especially in completion percentage. Let's not forget the biggest rushing threat that helped out Willis was. .... Willis. Lead the team in rushing. No Shawnbrey or Line to take some heat off.

couch....do you still think Justin is a better QB than Bo? Maybe you should call the CFL and get Justin a try-out? Maybe the CFL just needs to be educated by you as to who ended up being the better QB.

In his first CFL start, on July 26, 2013, Mitchell completed 29 of 33 attempts while passing for 376 yards, in a win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Mitchell won the Gibson's Finest Offensive Player of the Week for his performance. The 2013 season proved to be a breakout season for Mitchell. He played significant time at quarterback in 5 of the games, and appeared in another 7 games. His completion percentage was an impressive 69.6%, throwing for 1,156 yards with 10 touchdowns and only 3 interceptions: A quarterback rating of 111.2.

On January 14, 2014, Mitchell signed a contract extension with the Stampeders that will keep him in Calgary through 2016.[5] On June 14, 2014, Mitchell began the 2014 pre season with the Calgary Stampeders. The first week/game he played one quarter and ended the night with 76 passing yards in a 23-20 victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. On June 20, 2014 in the second week of pre season against the BC Lions Mitchell threw for 100 yards, 0 TD'S and 2 INT. He is currently in a competitive spot for the starting QB for the season with Drew Tate. On the week of June 22 Bo Levi Mitchell was named the starting QB for their week 1 game against the Montreal Alouettes. On opening day, Bo Levi Mitchell gave the Calgary Stampeders their first win of the season 29-8 against the Montreal Alouettes. Mitchell had 313 passing yards and 2 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. On Thursday, July 24, 2014, Bo Levi Mitchell tied Jeff Garcia's CFL record for consecutive career starts, going 7-0, with a 26-22 victory over the Edmonton Eskimos.

When the F have we ever run the RnS!?! We run a bomb-throwing, bubble screen throwing, half-back/QB drawing pile-o-sheet offense that requires no special skill beyond an accurate deep throw and quick feet to get yourself out of the pocket. I'm not trying to be a Willis apologist but given what we rolled out in 2008: Willis >> Bo

Most of the top college QBs were flops in the pro's. I don't think a CFL career tells us whether he was better as a true frosh although he has done good for himself.
Plus Willis spent years practicing as a WR under Jones and then had a horrific spiral leg break.
