Déjà vu

Postby mrydel » Tue Sep 09, 2014 1:17 pm

I know this is pipe dream and foolish. But thinking about our current situation took me back about 30+ years to an October afternoon in 1980 when we scrapped our passing game, installed a veer offense, started a true freshman QB against the # 2 team in the nation in Austin, TX. Not unlike the scenario we will see on the 20th. Ya just never know.

The "pitch" was born.

Not sure we have been recruiting at that level, but a running offense will at least chew up more time and get the game over faster.

Very excited to see the next phase - two back sets, inventive motion, tight ends that are actually used, aggressive defense. It will be a nice change.

Yeah. Little bit of trouble finding Dickerson and James on our sideline.

Vanderbilt went from a spread (not RnS) to a 2 back Stanford type boring offense and they are getting jacked up. We do not need the RnS or the boring 2 back old school set imo. Something in between like the spread or the pistol would work better imo.

I think Mason wants a pistol offense. Do not know if he will get it.

What were we running when Jerad Romo was QB? I loved it.

IMO, we will not beat A&M bc our talent disparity is just too strong. It's the Varsity vs. the JV. Having said that, with a well coached game and given the fact A&M doesn't know what to expect (and therefore prepare) for us, we have a chance to at least keep it somewhat respectable, maybe losing by 20+ points vs. getting blown out by 60+ had we stayed with Jones.

He was very pro pistol when interviewing for the Nevda HC position, but that may have just been pandering. The pistol would play to Davis's running ability and chew up more time. But seeing the O-line performance, they wont be making any gaps for a run. I hope this recharges Mason and this is his audition for a HC position somewhere else, or more likely a D coordinator at another school (perhaps back in Reno).

That was the single greatest SMU day in my life. I think I'm still sunburned.

Maybe if we don't have ED and CJ on the sideline we can have Crosby, Stills, Nash and (sometimes) Young.
