Seriously we should have never resurrected the football program after the death penalty. But since we did, what should SMU do now? As I see it, the options are (1) Stand pat and continue to lose millions of dollars each year, (2) Drop down to Division 3 and have the best stadium anywhere in Division 3 football, (3) Kill the program now and stop the revenue drain, or (4) Pour a lot more money into it and hire a top dollar AD and coach.
If anybody else has any other suggestions please post them. It seems that there are not enough diehard fans like me left. It looked like the stadium was maybe 10% full yesterday. That would be 3200 fans at best and a lot of them got in free. There were probably more than that on the Boulevard. I'm betting that Texas State or Sam Houston State draw more than that even when they're losing. The ECU announcers couldn't believe that we had such a nice facility and no fans, especially after a big win the week before.
I have a friend here who played football with Doak and Kyle. He doesn't keep up with SMU any more and he watches UT and Texas Tech instead. Can't blame him. At least he's not as frustrated as me.
