I don't rush to any conclusions since the obvious need to expand for the Big XII is barely 2 days old. Seems it would take longer than 48 hours for the Big XII to determine it needs to expand and who to invite.

One would think such a big decision and involving process would take more than 48 hours. I know Ron Meyer could sell ice to an Eskimo but even that would take him more than 48 hours.

And one wonders how much the politics of college football has to do with conference alignments. One would think a powerful state such as Texas would be interested in promoting Texas and not Ohio or Tennessee.

No one in Texas gives any more of a [deleted] if we beat Washington State, Duke, or Purdue than UTEP or Tulane.

Convince yourselves all you want that we need to do all sorts of things...until we win and draw consistent crowds it's like 3 part-timers at Wal-Mart arguing over what they need to do to get voted onto the company's board of directors.....they might have some ideas, but come on, who cares, it's pointless.

Skins on the wall matter....let's get some of those and then put our bigger plans to work.

We have been doing that for 30 years and look where we are. The Big 12 does not want us. We get no benefit from playing them. Build our own fanbase and stop focusing on what the other team will bring. We are in rebuilding mode, let's change everything we do. Otherwise, we are the definition of insane.

We play 0 big 12 schools in basketball, and our fans come to watch our team play. Do the same in Football. And you are wrong, people will care if we beat them because they are Power 5 teams.

You missed a key phrase here, floridianstang. Playing them does us no good because we have continuously soiled ourselves when we line up to play them. Playing relevant teams isn't enough; you have to beat them or at least make them competitive games. I like the idea of bringing in P5 teams from other conferences, but we can't get our asses handed to us every time we play them. That's how you attract fans that might show up more than once.

I agree with you. I base my assumption that SMU is fielding highly competitive teams that stand a good chance to beat P5 teams. I give my suggestion based on what benefits in regards to exposure SMU and the other school we decide to play would be able to gain.

Texas is currently being promoted to the extent that it is profitable.

They have been looking at expansion candidates for a lot longer, apparently.
