Frustrated and Out of Answers

Postby SMU Football Blog » Tue Oct 25, 2005 10:56 am

TULSA, Okla. The SMU football power brokers Phil Bennett, the coach, Gerald Turner, the president, and Jim Copeland, the athletic director walked off the Skelly Stadium field with their heads bowed.

The three men, who decide the fate of the program, appear frustrated and out of answers.

I am surprised this isn't getting more of a reaction here. If those in charge are indeed frustrated and out of answers, isn't change the only answer?

Most people on this board seem to know the answers more than they do :)

was that quote by Calvin Watkins or somebody else? Even so, its just his perception. I damn sure hope they looked disappointed after the loss.

To me, the use of the word "appear" makes me think it's Watkins' opinion. And change isn't necessarily the only option. If "the answer" can be found without changing personnel, that's another option. I don't claim to have the answer (this time  ), but I'd like to see an answer found, rather than simply razing the staff and starting over.

I am sorry, I meant to add that it was from Saturday's DMN; the game summary by Watkins. Yes, it is his perception and nothing more. But I think there is something to it. I personally find it very interesting Copeland and Turner haven't said a word since before the ECU game.

Have they been approached? If the media isn't bugging them with questions, they're not going to just start issuing statements through the athletic department. Maybe if we were 8-0, they'd be seeking out the media to announce to the world that things are going great and they "just have fun coming to the office every day." But (BREAKING NEWS) we're not 8-0, so their volume level doesn't seem surprising or inappropriate.

The Saturday DMN quoted the above? Are they/you clairvoyant?
