Massey and other ramblings

Postby Hoop Fan » Sun Nov 06, 2005 11:31 am

Am I wrong, or did Richuel Massey not see the field yesterday? Whats the deal? His body language sitting on the bench with his helmet on was not real good.

Reggie Carrington looked like a beast out there, especially on special teams blowing people up. I think he can replace DD Lee fairly well at MLB next year. With the steady improving depth at defensive line, what about moving Cory Muse to strong side linebacker next year. Recruit a stud juco somehow and a suddenly linebacker could even be a strength next year. What about Wilton McCray as a safety next year instead of undersized lineback? Makinde is a specimen, hes gotta be able to play.

Once again, Jared Romo didnt do much of anything out there today. Frankly, he made some real bad throws. If he was going to be here next year it would be different. He does some things well and plays within his ability, but its unheard of for a 2-6 team not to try and get some experience and momentum for next year.

He played, but not a whole lot. He's becoming a monster of a blocker.

I agree, Reggie Carrington looked great. He'll be fine as Lee's successor -- I thought yesterday was his best day as a Mustang, or at least his best home game.

I don't like the idea of moving Muse back to SLB. He's gotten much bigger (what is he now .... 240? 250?) and he has looked in the Tulsa and Rice games like his knee is really not preoccupying his mind now. He looks much more comfortable at the position. He and Justin Rogers are getting better every week. I don't think that pair should be messed with.

I do like your McCray-to-safety idea, where his speed can be effective and his size won't be as much of an issue. But since we need to replace SIX linebackers (Lee, Nnabuife, Harris, Cox, Cleveland, Powell), I can't imagine there's any chance of McCray moving positions.

To be fair, he also didn't have to do much. He sure didn't win the game for us, but he didn't lose it with turnovers. He was efficient, almost to the point of being boring. But if we're winning, that's OK. He's going to have to make some plays to win against Houston and/or UTEP, but considering the fact that any of us could have fed the ball to DeMyron Martin and we would have won, I was OK with Romo yesterday.
