HS Playoffs

Postby Mickey » Sun Nov 06, 2005 9:48 am

I thought Bennett wanted to make Ford available for HS Playoff games as a recruiting tool. Todd Wills in the DMN had a Top 10 list for the playoffs

8. Gerald J. Ford Stadium. It's a great setting but should be more available for playoff games.

What is the story on this?

There were a few HS games played there last year, weren't there?
Have HS playoffs even started yet?
I agree, it would be great to have that happen. Getting talented HS players into our beautiful stadium can only help.

I think I saw at least 2 games scheduled for Ford Stadium on the High School Highlite Show the other Nite. Can't remember the teams though.

I disagree with their ranking of the Gopher Bowl at #3. For my money it is the best HS stadium I have been to. The Bell stadium is ok but nowhere close to the Gopher and shouldn't even be in the top ten except for ease of parking. Texas Stadium may be a thrill for HS players but with only about 10k per game it is empty and kind of strange. Ford could be ideal but like a lot of things associated with SMU sports it is not.

The CSTV crew assigned to the Rice game was the 2nd group (ECU game was a different crew) that has just raved about our campus, Ford Stadium, etc... There's no question but that SMU has to do everything it can to get more people to visit...and hopefully get some of these locals (who may have never stepped foot on SMU's campus) to come back and experience the SMU gameday atmosphere...starting with the festivities on the BLVD. We've got something special with the BLVD and FORD, but aren't marketing them enough

There will be more fans of those two high schools in Ford Stadium next Saturday than there have been SMU fans in it for any home game all season long. :(
