All-conference Team CUSA

Postby AusTxPony » Mon Nov 21, 2005 11:24 am

Who has a chance for this honor on our 2005 football team? I say Sturdivant, McMurtray, and B. Chase, in that order.

I think Haywood is the best SMU Defensive Lineman in 20 years-so I'd include Haywood. I think Chase is nice and probably deserves some mention, but have you seen Johnny Lee Higgins? He's been awesome in the games I've seen.

Sturdivant has to be a slam-dunk first teamer. Haywood should be, but might get squeezed out (although all of his good games have come against CUSA opponents). And McMurtray is in a class by himself, at least among CUSA kickers. Is it too late to nominate him for the Groze Award  ?

I would think Chase and DeMyron Martin will get second-team or honorable mention honors.

Sturdivant, Haywood and McMurtray have to be on the first team. You know who's quietly done an excellent job this year (but won't get all-conference)? Darrin Johnson. He's vastly improved over last year -- in large part, I'm sure, because he's finally healthy.
