Retired numbers, IMHO, are dead numbers. Great numbers should be used.

Are you and Smusic purposely misreading my statement? I said retired jersey not number. SMU does reite jerseys so the number can still be used. SMU retired Don Meredith's jersey in 2008. See the below link for retired SMU jersies.

You are correct, I misread your statement. Frankly, it never occurred to me that a team would "retire a jersey" without actually retiring the "number."

If the team still uses your number, "retiring a jersey" is really meaningless IMHO.

its actually cooler when a number gets special significance at a school like Tommy Nobias No. 60 at UT and Jerry Levias No. 23. It passes the historical significance down to new generations. A similar but different situation was Rickey Williams wearing No. 37 in honor of Doak Walker
"With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris

When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.

So, when Line is in the game, the other team doesn't know if he is going to line up as a true RB or in one of those myriad of H-Back roles. If Gaines and Line are both in the game with another RB, we could be splitting Gaines out as a third WR and Line at FB with no TE, or we could go to 4 wides with Line as a slot, or we could go with a double TE set with Line and Gaines on the edges. Lots of flexibility.

It is great to have an innovative coach. I can't wait to see this offense running at full speed.

The long overdue should apply doubly to IT in basketball.

Well, actually I only wrote about Kaufman and didn't mention Line or Gaines. JasonB gave a good explanation of the several roles a Morris H-back is might fulfill. My limited appreciation had been of a "true" H-back as described.

Thanks to JasonB and I agree with the Planter's Punch comment about coach Morris.
