yeah but it didn't hurt TCU and arguably this is the Golden Age of Rice Football in 50 years (albeit at a lower level)

The breakup of the Southwest Conference is not a separate event from Pye's efforts to deemphasize SMU sports; it is actually a near-direct consequence of Pye's efforts. I've heard that the SWC was doomed the first time UT experienced the charms of the Ownby Stadium visitors' locker room, post-DP.

Yes in deed, the visitor's locker room was located a block away in Moody.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Isn't there a great quote from an opposing coach about dressing for games at Ownby?

Screw our own administration, faculty, and community. it's their fault we're in this mess, not UTs. They rode coattails for years and wondered why they got dumped to the curb with those embarrassing facilities.

Texas Stadium was not considered a poor facility at the time. The poor facilities came after the breakup of the SWC die was cast. True, our own administration screwed us over. BUT, that was after our conference mates screwed us and left us dangling in the wind. Pretty ballsy on their part to then complain about the lack of facilities when they were part of the problem to begin with. They initiated the mess by running to the NCAA and crying like little baby wimps. But for the NCAA we would still be whipping their tax fed little asses.
