5 things SMU fans should know about James MadisonSMU-12 NCAA appearances, 1 Final Four
2014-15 & 2016-17 AAC Men's Basketball Champs
Re: 5 things SMU fans should know about James MadisonAs long as HCCM drills it into the teams mind that JMU isn't going to show up with their tails between their legs and just meekly accept their paychecks it should be fine. I am sure they will put up a good fight but if baylor and tcu couldn't stop matt davis/Courtland Sutton then I seriously have my doubts about jmus ability to do the same, assuming they aren't overlooked.
I haven't checked myself but someone mentioned they don't have much team speed, particularly on offense. It's not like baylor and tcus track team receivers will be out there running routes. If everyone takes care of business this should be at least a 2 possesion win. IF everyone takes care of business.
Re: 5 things SMU fans should know about James Madisoni've watched some highlight reel on them, and they don't appear to be much faster or bigger than their competition in the first 3 games. marginally if any. they just run a similar uptempo offense to us. i think we get the nod in the athleticism part of this game, but they are experienced, where we are playing a BUNCH of underclassmen. save for Davis, all the major contributors against TCU were soph or younger
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally
Re: 5 things SMU fans should know about James Madison
I think you're right. In this case I'd like to think that superior athleticism will trump experience. I mean if Matt davis scrambles a lot does anyone honestly think someone on their defense can contain him? Even if a play just broke down he made all three D1a (2 elite p5) opponents look slow and unable to stop him. Offense WILL score. Only question is if the defense can stop them enough, which I'm confident in.
Re: 5 things SMU fans should know about James Madison
I see what you are saying. I didn't see a Listenbee or KD Cannon on their team when I saw their video. #HammerDown
Re: 5 things SMU fans should know about James MadisonTurn overs can keep a lesser team in the game long enough to get lucky - so there is no reason to be anything but pedal down on these guys. Hope to see some SMU defensive turnovers. An early jump would be a big help.
Re: 5 things SMU fans should know about James MadisonFlashback to 2006. This is how you take care of an FCS school.
Southern Methodist 45, Sam Houston State 14 9/16/2006 - SAM HOUSTON ST. BEARKATS VS. SMU MUSTANGS DALLAS (AP) -- Justin Willis completed 18 of 19 passes for 248 yards and five touchdowns and ran for another score as Southern Methodist beat Sam Houston State 45-14 on Saturday night. After they were outscored 59-9 in their first two games, SMU (1-2) recorded 443 yards of total offense and scored their most points at Gerald J. Ford Stadium since the venue opened in 2001. Division I-AA Sam Houston State (1-1) has lost its last seven games against I-A teams and is 2-19 all-time against I-A opponents. Willis had scoring tosses of 32, 11, 30, 13 and 25 yards to five different receivers, along with a 2-yard touchdown run, as the Mustangs built a 42-0 lead. He started the game completing 13 consecutive passes, tying the second-longest streak in school history behind 19 consecutive completions by Josh McCown against Tulsa in 1999. Willis' five touchdown passes were the second most by an SMU quarterback in a game behind six by Mike Romo against Vanderbilt in 1990. Phillip Daugherty started at quarterback for the Bearkats, replacing the injured Wade Pate. Pate injured his left shoulder in Sam Houston's 41-3 win over Arkansas-Monticello on Sept. 9. Daugherty finished the game 17 of 25 for 110 yards with two interceptions. Backup Brett Hicks led Sam Houston with 134 yards passing, completing 16 of 26 passes. Fred Turner of SMU led all rushers with 104 yards rushing on nine attempts. D.D. Terry led Sam Houston State with 40 yards rushing on 10 carries and two touchdowns.
