Playing for money

Postby 1983 Cotton Bowl » Mon Oct 12, 2015 11:28 am

So it's pretty clear to me at this point the Ponies will not be making the NCAA playoffs this season. Disappointing, but I've accepted it and am adjusting my expectations.

(yes, I jest)

Seriously though, now my main goal this season is for the AAC to break into the P-5 party and get a big bowl payday so it can rain a little for poor SMU. With that in mind, I'm looking at the AP and coaches polls and am a little confused by what I see.

As I understand it, the highest ranked G-5 team gets a seat at the big boy table in the post-season (with the accompanying money for the conference). The AAC appears to have 3 contenders at this point. . .UH, Memphis, and Temple. Best I can tell (and I've only watched each of them a little bit), all 3 teams are pretty strong and they are all undefeated. Yet, the AP poll only has UH, the coaches poll only has Memphis, and Temple is nowhere to be found.

On top of that, I see Boise State ahead of both UH and Memphis in the respective polls, despite already losing to a 2-loss BYU team.

So I guess my question boils down to . . .WTF is going on here? Is Boise getting too much respect? Is the AAC not getting enough respect? Or is Boise legitimately better than any of the 3 undefeated teams in our conference?

If Boise beats Utah St this week then AAC is in trouble.

Toledo should be ranked higher than Boise State (same amount of P5 wins but no losses) but other than that everything looks fine. We still have three weeks until the first CFP poll comes out.

Just like that, Boise goes down in ugly fashion. And UH kills Tulane (no surprise there). Excellent! I'm a Temple and Memphis fan today.

I have no problem supporting other AAC teams this season and for the coming future regarding OOC games and those that don't impact us. Need to grow the league, it will raise us up.

Well, at this point I'd say things are playing out very nicely this weekend. Very, very impressed with Memphis. Great win against a top-25 SEC opponent. And the announcers during that game were even commenting that they didn't understand why Temple wasn't in the top 25 after beating Penn State. I like it!!!
