Yes! JasonB telling someone else they're grading the team too high. I've seen it all now on Ponyfans! I agree though, you don't give up 60 points and get anything but a failing grade.

If Junesus was still coaching, JasonB would give out straight A's.

I guess it depends on how you are grading. I've already stated that I "pretty much agree" with Tide Pony. If I were to grade, I would take into consideration player's' ability. If not then let's just accept that a loss means failure and gives the team an "F" no matter how they played. We might have the slowest team in our conference. It looks to me like SMU's O and D lines are slow and weak; have been all year. Our DBs slow and weak. Linebackers slow and weak. Passing game has been inconsistent. Running game inconsistent. One ACE player (could play for most any team) - a receiver.
SMU is playing a team thought to be the 22 best team in college football. That needs to be considered.
I thought SMU's offensive and defensive lines played one of their better games. SMU got nearly 400 yards on offense. That should have been enough to beat Temple.
The big chunks of yards Temple made came from SMU mistakes - big mistakes. Mistakes are going to happen with this team - esp. close to the end of the game on desperation plays. Coaching: A (I don't think a broken assignment is a coaching fault) Good coaching choices. I liked the play selection. I thought the team was ready to play and aggressive. The O and D playbooks look to be very effective for this team.
Special teams: B- (At times A+) Punter averaged 41.8 yards. A couple of deep punts. Great return.
Defense: C Better play for the most part. Big mistakes hurt SMU on O and D. But improvement very noticeable. D line and DB's much improved especially considering the opponent. (We're going to get outran - fact of the game).
Offense: B+ Scored 40 points, should have been enough to win. O line better blocking. Running game not where it needs to be, but better than expected against Temple. Passing game as good as or better than normal (loved Sutton's pass).
Crowd: C+ Small - but Friday night is a bad night for college football because people who live outside of Dallas have a hard time going to work and getting home in time for a game. Also, local high school games will take away from fanbase. Uniform: A+ The uniforms look GREAT! Not a choice for every game, but good alternative...Even the helmets were a great alternative. (I'd bet the high school kids loved them).
Atmosphere: B I would imagine we didn't get as many high school athletes watching the game because on the date scheduled. (I didn't know where to put this, so I just put it here.) Overall grade: B (all things considered)

There are about half a billion threads when June was here where I pointed out the lack of adjustments in the defensive scheme Mason had (refusal to play nickel, hole in the zone behind the linebackers 20 yards past he LOS that everyone and their dog knew about after the first year. I also said, along with everyone else, the antiquated nature of the offensive scheme, and that it is one thing to have a line of 300 pound NFL prototype Samoans that allow your to look deep first and then adjust to the short route than try that scheme with our offensive line. As everyone knows, the best year of the offense was the half year when we had studs on the o-line, Sanders deep, and when that wasn't open you dump it off to McNeal to run in space. The coaching staff was too stubborn to adjust when the OL wasn't as high quality, and it killed us just as much as when they refused to adjust for Willis and benched him in the first year. I challenge you to go back and find any thread where I called June a genius. Just because I didn't join the bandwagon to burn him in effigy three years ago doesn't mean I was giving him ringing endorsements either. The world isn't always black and white. Sometimes people can take a more neutral perspective. And sure, when it comes to practice, I wear SMU on my sleeve and try to see the bright side of things rather than focusing on the negative. I don't tend to call out the negative performances by players, and sometimes I look for more of the positive stuff. So sue me for not throwing a bunch of college students under the bus. Sometimes I see the athletic potential of some of our players and it never quite comes out on the field - D Richardson, Shaq, Stewart immediately come to mind. But on the other hand, I also called out that LeRibeous, Holman, Gilbert, Lawler would be really good players before anyone was saying that.

These are hard working kids that give good effort. Mason did not make very good adjustments and had a major problem with hurry up offenses. You supported Mason on more than one post saying that he made adjustments. The problem was that they were not very good adjustments. Also, many people thought Gilbert would be a good fit in the offense when he decided to come to SMU. You also said that this team has mostly average and some above average AAC players and we do not at this point. Someone intelligently pointed out that when you look at practice and Spring ball that is when the team is practicing against each other so the players are probably going to look better than they are. Even when bad D3 players practice against bad D3 players someone is going to look good but when they go against a good D3 team they are usually not going look that good. Your 6-6 prediction was way off base because you thought JJ and Mason recruited better than he did and now you have been proven completely wrong. We do not have the talent level you proclaimed and now you are trying to backdoor the coaches without even giving them 2 recruiting classes. We'll get there but it will take some time and patience to get the right players.

and he's tripling down negative on a program heading upwards. He couldn't see the talent stair steppin' down and now he's missing the talent stair steppin' up. Might be time for a name change because this will not end well for JasonB. Defensive rebuild starts in 2016 and will take 2-3 years but there are exciting talent upgrades coming for the Defense and Offense as well

To blame the coaches for poor execution because they have not drilled it into the heads of the players absolutely leaves me dumbfounded.

Kids don't learn how to memorize or have facts "drilled" in their heads anymore. It's all hands-on, Montessori-stuff. So, you know, what we are seeing is hands-on learning from un-talented players.

We played a good FBS team pretty evenly most of the game. We had a talent gap, but made up for it with hard play and good game plan. This was a baby step, but a loss is a loss. We have three games to go against two very good opponents. We need to play this way and better the next three games.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
