A million-ish-dollar salary at a school without private-school admissions requirements (yes, even Tulsa has them, although not to the level we have them and Rice has them) and coaching a team that draws .... maybe 70,000 (?) to its games makes CU a better job. So does the fact that the bowl payouts are much bigger, they can recruit from a wider pool of prospects and the fact that they live in Boulder, not in Tulsa, Oklahoma. (Hell, that alone makes the CU job better than the TU job.)
Doesn't look like it's going to matter one way or the other as ESPN is reporting that CU is looking to hire Dan Hawkins from Boise St.

---- If so, that is bad news for Boise State. IMO, Hawkins is their program.
Colorado could do a lot worse -- Hawkins is a fantastic coach.
Anyone else find this sentence ironic? "The only other known interview was with former Colorado player Jon Embree, currently an assistant at UCLA."
ESPN just reported that Hawkins has agreed to accept the Colorado gig.
Wonder how hard it will be to get a quality guy to replace him in Boise.
Is anyone else surprised to learn that Colorado's mascot was the Golden Buffalos and not just the Buffalos?
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2259394 "Dan Hawkins is the type of coach who represents virtually every expectation that I outlined," CU athletic director Mike Bohn told Denver station KUSA-TV before the agreement was finalized. "We will be well on our way to restoring a sense of pride in the Golden Buffaloes." The donkey's name is Kiki.
On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney? Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.
I rather expect that Hawkins will do a fine job in colorado. While most SMU folks didn't really know or care about boise st., our former WAC cohort have been trying hard to make a name. I had long ago said that Hawkins would take boise up the ranks. I lived in the area he came from, and has had success recruiting in. Not only do I think he is a good coach, and good man, but I suspect that colorado will appreciate his abiltiy to recruit. I do know the school gave him a lot of support, and the people there and those who knew him in northern california love the guy.
I hope SMU would do the same for Bennett. Go Ponies!
