As an aspirational peer of the greatest college football university of all time, I have, over the last several years, become extremely concerned over the direction of the University of Michigan fans and boosters. I fear that my fellow Wolverines have come to expect too much from our program. I wish to offer the following as reasons for a vote of confidence in Coach Llloyd Carr:
We can still win the Big Ten Championship
This is a rebuilding year. Next year will be much better.
The poor start this year is not Coach Carr's fault. He just needs to change some assistant coaches.
After over a century of playing second fiddle, we captured the all time winning percentage under Coach Carr.
He is the only UM coach to have won at least a half national championship in over 50 years, ahead of even Bo!
The academic standards of the University of Michigan are too high for it to expect consistent grid-iron dominance.
Llloyd Carr exhibits sportsmanship unparalleled throughout all of college football. UM is lucky to be represented by such a classy individual.
Coach Carr graduates his players and runs the program perfectly from Sunday to Friday and on whichever day the Rose Bowl is.
Only Heroes wear a 36D!

The bottom line is that Michigan cannot compete for national championships every year. Our talent can never reach the levels of contemporarily strong programs such as USC or powers with a true tradition of excellence such as Notre Dame. Despite the fact that we bring in a Top 5 recruiting class every year, Carr is reasonable in setting Michigan's goals at a Big 10 championship and to discourage the focus on a national championship. While, this viewpoint has led many around the country to joke that M stands for mediocre, just like that SNL skit, sometimes it is important to realize the value in "lowered expectations." If, as alumni and fans alike, we desire to remain on top of college football's history books, Llloyd Carr must be NOT replaced by someone with the ability to lead Michigan football back to the top. Rather, we should petition to join the MAC, as UM boasts a perfect record against teams from this powerhouse conference.
If only SMU thought like this? Wait Copeland it's a rhetorical question
