Guess we know why they're 6-5 so far.

Let me slap myself for Almond about 1 thing:

The ball fake for the last TD pass (24-17) was terrific!

Anybody see it?

Thats the only time I was impressed by USM all night but they soon took that away with their next offensive drive.

USM is making mistakes left and right and it's costing them. Safety just a second ago. 24-19 USM still though, but ASU has full momentum and is driving.

Ark State isnt too bad. I dont know how many seniors they graduate, but SMU might have to strap it on to beat them next September.

USM hasn't been bad...they've just shot themselves in the foot. ALL THEY HAVE TO DO IS THROW THE BALL DOWNFIELD! You'd think that Bower would have figured that out before the 4th quarter was half over. And if I see another fumble, I'm going to scream.

All ASU has is a QB. Does anyone know what class he is in?

He's a senior according to their website.

Southern Miss sure was lucky to get out of this one with a victory. Lot of mistakes but either way it's a big...fat...W

FINAL
Southern Miss: 31
Arkansas State: 19

Conference USA now 1-0 in Bowl Games!

That said, I don't think Arkansas State will be an easy win for us. USM was 5-3 in CUSA despite Katrina problems of their own, we were 4-4. They had an QB with a season of experience at least, we'll have either a red-shirt freshman or a JUCO QB starting their first 1-A game. This could be one of those game like Navy four years ago where we expected to win and got shellacked. The boys better be ready next year for this one.

Hard to be like Navy. Navy was winless the year before as I recall. Got a new coach and scheme. It turns out we had little coming back. This time it will be a bowl team we are facing even if it is Ark St. Hard to over look.

But...USM had a hard time only because they shot themselves in the foot. And before you try telling me that turnovers are the result of good defense, did you see the play on the 1-yard line where Almond tried to go over the pile and forgot the football behind him? USM was shooting themselves in the foot. If the Eagles would have brought their game, it would not have been this close.

Yeah, but Arkansas State shot itself in the foot -- a kick return for a TD was called back, and some idiot dropped a sure INT that looked like clear sailing for a touchdown. Should have been 14-3, Arkansas State, but they were still trailing, 3-0. Arkansas State should have won last night, I thought.

They aren't as bad as we thought. But, they aren't great.

We had better be ready for everyone.

But regarding ASU the following are SRs (partial list)

2 RBs ranked #13 and #65 nationally

QB
Kicker
Leading DB ranked #23 in INTs
