hahahahahahah i like that...made me laugh...i understand people get up in a roar about recruiting violations....but as long as your smart...dont buy them anything, give them anything ect...your pretty much ok....besides the only time i would contact a recruite is to see if we can train him....wouldnt even mention smu or anyother school...we are very carefully about what we do since most of us are former or still strength coaches in major college 1-A level. but i will say this...there is a new HP quaterback that just transfered from here in atlanta that i trained him and his brother...his brother was runner up in state her last year and is playing at harvard....this kid at HP is dam good.6'4 i belive (of course im 5'9 so everyone is tall to me) and a heck of an arm an athlete......bennett should take advantage and jump on him...ill be traveling to dallas next year to watch him!!!!

[quote="RGV Pony"]I for one understand where smu01 is coming from...so do the guys at the Highland Park branch of 'Velocity,' who have a similar business model. I think smu01's bunch is who I'd have my kid signed up with.

velocity.....oh man if only i could get people to join them for 2 months then come over to me for 2 months....the difference is unbeliveable!!!!!! they are more about getting as many kids as possible and making the most money....they higher to many "trainers" that have no clue what there doing and try to train them up in like a day.....simply cant do that......these lifts and form running are VERY complex and take years of learning and actually doing them to be able to teach them...but ya send your kid to me.....i not only train them but teach them what they need to say, ask, look for when looking into colleges...kids need to go on a recruiting trip and give the impression that they know what there doing.......sit down with a coach at dinner and when he says "man come here and there are blonds and bmw's everywhere!" pull out a list of about 50 questions and a pen and start interviewing him.........let him know your serious

If you have any ties with the university through any means you are a "athletic representative" and therefore may not contact recruits, if this rule is violated it is an institution violation, each time.

A recruit may call an "athletic representative" but the representative can not initiate the call or talk about the athletic program. Now if you think this is followed I have some land...................

Great thread, SMU01...I wonder though, where were ALL these NCAA rules "do and don't'" experts from about 1957 through 1986?? Some of these responses make me laugh....long live Jeff Jacobs.

I was back in Dallas some months ago to visit my wife's family, and traffic has gotten awful in Big D. Sorry to inform you SMU01. Best of luck with your relocation.

Where were those of us with knowledge of the rules in the 1950's through 1980's? That's a good question. First in the 1950's-1980's there was not a message board in which to discuss these issues. Secondly, when the leadership of the University was assisting those paying the players, its pretty hard to stop it. As Sherwood Blount so colorfully stated, we couldn't stop because we had a payroll to meet. Third, look at the brothel that was the SWC of the 70's, 80's and 90's. No one was following the rules and to stay competitive, SMU's leadership decided to be the best whore in the house and was unapologetic about it. No one wants to go back to 1988. We would like to see changes so that we can be competitive without the high payroll. I only viewed my cautions as trying to be helpful. I only suggested that those who want to talk to potential recruits, put in a call to the coaching staff first.

Ditto Estang. During the time mentioned I attended, played for, coached for, and graduated from SMU. And I abided by the rules then and ever since then. I do not want another NCAA investigation. I would rather be struggling to get to a bowl game than knowing up front that we can not go to one regardless, or that we do not have a team period.

in that case you are absolutly right!!! if someone is going to talk to a recruit on there own..they need to call the athletic office before doing so.....however no one does this.....but they should....me and my company do not recruit for any school....so in our circumstance it would be pointless to contact them...since we already know the rules...we are pretty much allowed to do whatever since we are a private company with no affiliation to colleges...if i worked with a kid that i thought would be good at smu..id tell him to give it some thought...and give him my experiences..but never try to sell him......frankly if people are going out and recruiting on there own...they have way to much time on there hands

BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.
