The DMN has on its web site the sad news about the death of a TCU walk on football player, Kasey Davis. I hope that all of the Frog fans know that our prayers are with his family and the football program during this time.

What a horrible way to start the new year. Condolences to his family and friends, and to the TCU community. My thoughts are with you.

(CBS 11 News) CONROE A Texas Christian University walk-on placekicker was shot during a holiday visit home.

Conroe Police report Officials Kasey Davis apparently was visiting friends at an apartment complex when officers located him this morning inside his vehicle with a gunshot wound to the chest.

The vehicle was parked in the parking lot of Forest Creek Apartments located at 2200 Montgomery Park Blvd. The 20-year-old was transported to Conroe Regional Medical Center, where he later died.

According to Mark Cohen, TCU Athletics Media Relations Director, the redshirt freshman played in two games this season.

In a press release, TCU head football coach Gary Patterson said of the arts/science pre-major: “TCU is very saddened to learn of this tragic occurrence. Kasey was a team player and had a great future at TCU. He will be greatly missed. Our hearts and minds are with his family during this difficult time.””

Conroe police were able to obtain a description of a suspect from witnesses. Police said 40-year-old Jeffrey Clay Lasiter had a rifle in the front seat of his car when he was pulled over. Lasiter later was arrested and charged with murder.

Suspect arrested in TCU football player's killing

CONROE - A Texas Christian University football player died early today after he was shot in his sport utility vehicle at an apartment complex, police said.

Kasey Christopher Davis, 20, was shot in the chest about 12:30 a.m., after he parked his Chevrolet Suburban in the parking lot of the Forest Creek Apartments in the 2200 block of Montgomery Park Boulevard, police said.

Davis was taken to Conroe Regional Medical Center, where he died at 1:52 a.m., police said.

Police arrested a suspect, 40-year-old Jeffrey Clay Lasiter, about a mile from the crime scene. He is in the Montgomery County Jail on murder charges, police said.

Witnesses' description of Lasiter's vehicle helped police locate him about three minutes after they responded to the 911 call, said Conroe police spokesman Sgt. Bob Berry.

Lasiter was pulled over for a traffic stop in the 1300 block of West Davis Street. Police discovered a rifle, in full view, on the front seat of Lasiter's car, Berry said. Lasiter was questioned and taken into custody, he said.

Davis, a Conroe native, was home visiting on Christmas break and to play a football game. He was visiting friends at the apartment complex when the shooting occurred, Berry said.

Davis, a redshirt freshman, played in two games this season for the Horned Frogs. TCU beat Iowa State in the EV1.net Houston Bowl on New Year's Eve at Reliant Stadium.

"TCU is very saddened to learn of this tragic occurrence," TCU coach Gary Patterson said in a statement. "Kasey was a team player and had a great future at TCU. He will be greatly missed. Our hearts and minds are with his family during this difficult time."

Davis, an arts and sciences major, graduated from Conroe High School, where he was an accomplished football player. He was a first team all-district and all-county punter and second team all-county and honorable mention all-district placekicker. He also played in the national All-Star Bowl, said the TCU Web site.

Investigators do not have a motive in the shooting. The investigation is ongoing, Berry said.

Thanks for your kind words, Ponies--I've known Kasey for quite some time, and, man, was he a down-to-earth family-guy. He's the kind of kid you want your daughter to spend the rest of her life with... May he rest at God's arms.
