SMU will get its shot at the Bearkats prior to the Longhorns.
Sam Houston State will play the #1 University of Texas Longhorns on Sept. 30 in Austin, TX. That will be the last game of OOC play for the Bearkats. (There's a message on the SHSU home page that says 'See ya in Austin on Sept. 30!')
Sam Houston AD Bobby Williams must really want that new scoreboard, weight room and turf at Bowers Stadium! $$$ from the SMU & UT games will pay for them.

Sure the paycheck from SMU is pretty minimal....hopefully we have not already guaranteed the size of the check....given the potential for poor attendance since it is SHSU and not Tech, Baylor or even TCU.

For the love of Doak, can we drop the game with the Bear-kitties from our schedule?

Gee, I hate to disagree with the Snob, but the game contract isn't signed if the size of the check isn't guaranteed.

As a double grad of SMU and UT, I am embarassed that the Horns have scheduled SHSU, and can find no benefit for SMU to play them either. Put TCU back on the schedule regardless of whether we play SHSU or not. At least Arkansas State was in a bowl game.

FLASH...
FrogSnob posts above that UT has greater enrollment and related attendance than SMU. Next thing you know, he'll tell us that UT has a better team (but I bet that TCU would kick UT's [deleted], right FrogSnob?).
An interesting side note for all of you that complain abut SMU's attendance:
In a one-trick-pony town (that means no competing pro or college sports teams, FrogSnob), if you compare UT's regular attendance - say 83,000 - to its enrollment - say 50,000 - it creates a atttendance to enrollment factor of 1.66.
Using the same factor as related to SMU's enrollment - say 9,500 - in a five or six sports teams town, you find a projected attendance of 15,770. Add into the mix (a) generations of progeny at those enrollment levels, (b) the lack of success on SMU's field of play for 15 years, and (c) all the other successful sports venues in town, and maybe SMU's attendance is not far from what should be expected.
I continue to say that attendance in major metro areas is pure cause and effect: Winning begats highly competitive media exposure which begats fan-pool interest which begats gameday attendance. It's not promotion, it's success! Winning is the single cure-all for attendance issues. In my opinion, Dallas has pent-up interest and is desirous of SMU for to achieve athletic success for a generation. If only SMU can actually create some competitive success, it will be interesting to see the ramifications on attendance. Alas, if only...
FrogSnob, I apologize if all of this is over your head. Arithmetic factors, mathematics, and cause/effect issues are indeed complex. To summarize, for your exclusive benefit: TCU rocks!

Nope. That's Texas State University - San Marcos and they're called the Bobcats.

Actually I was just stating to MM65, that SHSU surely isn't looking at getting a huge check for playing SMU like they will for playing Texas to fund their athletic department.

SHSU's paycheck from U.T. is reported to be $300,000. The check from SMU is reported to be $250,000.

Sounds like SHSU could make more money on that game than SMU will. Our season ticket base for that one game won't even come close to paying the guarantee.
