Meeks..football..golf.......?basketball?

Postby dandyfan » Tue Feb 18, 2003 12:52 pm

According to a Longview newspaper, Ricky Joe Meeks lead Mt. Vernon to a bi-district win. Lead the team in scoring with 17. Cowboypony, isn't this the first time Mt. Vernon has won a basketball playoff game since the mid-sixties??

He's a good basketball player, but he's going to play football and golf at SMU.

Dandyfan, I believe you are correct. The last playoff game won by the boys bb team was in 1969 or 1970 and my uncle was on that team. I can obviously be corrected but I think that's right.

........and, please, don't anyone come on here and start talking about Meeks playing basketball at SMU. Let's just end any speculation right now.

Is he a point guard or a shooting guard? We could use some outside shooting.

Here's what Meeks did in the bi-district basketball game. With Mt. Vernon up by 1 point with less than 1 minute to play, Meeks was fouled and proceeded to sink both free throws to seal the win by 3 points. Meeks has done these types of things on a number of ocassions in both FB and BB. His composure is perhaps his greatest attribute.
