I'm just curious:

What would you guys like to have from the Mustang Club in 2006? Most of the time you can get 'inside' information from the posts first here in 'Ponyfans'. There are really no perks to being a member of the MC. What we need are some realistic and appealing ideas to share with the big guys.

From my point of view, the MC has turned into an information session. A group that has been repeatedly asked to give money but with no power to ever voice opinions and cause change.

Here's what I'm thinking:

One man one vote doesn't work for the average MC member. Only the very wealthy (although this includes you TGR) can really create change. While you might think this is a democratic comment, I assure you that it is not. I am willing to have ownership in the form of shares. Whether it is in the form of closed-end or open-end offering, we can have an assigned value for each share at the offering ($100 = 10 units = $10/unit).

Here is where it can interesting:

Depending on how many games we win or lose (including streaks), go to a bowl, win a bowl, and # of recruits including their ranks, the units will either gain or lose value. This would be a real way to add some incentives for the coaches, players, athletic department, and the university to try and perform at the highest levels all the time. The consequences would be that nobody would want to purchase a terrible product, but it could also mean that those who were die-hard fans could pick up more units at a cheaper price. On the flip side, for those who like to ride the band-wagon, they would have to purchase the units at a higher price.

I think this would allow for the possibility of a more level playing field. There is no way that I can catch up to some of the biggest donors of today for another 20 years. If I'm a die-hard fan through the worst of times, it allows me to pick up more units at a more reasonable price. It also allows me to just by my way to the top if I feel like it!

I don't think anyone will lose here. Plus, this could keep more people engaged in the program by MC members constantly valuing their investment (because the ponies are an investment) and more so, by allowing people to form alliances to affect the changes that they as a collective group might want than another faction in the MC.

This program has resisted all types of change. NCAA football is no longer about passing out participation trophies for putting on a jersey. We should all feel the pain when we lose and not submit ourselves to anymore 'moral victory' rhetoric. This is not what I signed up for. I want to compete. There is real money to be had out there. If we want any part of the BCS pie or other bowl money, then we have to committ to running this department as a business.

I could really care less about perks. I just want there to be some way to make things happen if need be.

ASpelling -- you are wrong wrong wrong. It doesn't take big bucks to be a Friend of the Program who can communicate their ideas to the head honchos, be heard, and see action. I am proof of that, and I know I'm not the only one. I'm sure your perception is based on the fact that you haven't actually tried. What it takes is a demonstrated time and energy commitment to the program.

I volunteer, I go to events, I have developed a first name relationship with the staff and the coaches, I cheer loudly at basketball games, I play in the alumni band, and I give my measly 3 figures the Mustang Club -- yet somehow, I got appointed to the Mustang Club Board, I get called to participate in hiring committees, am a captain of the annual fund drive, get moved to floor seats at basketball games on occasion when when the Big Money doesn't show. I feel my ideas and suggestions, large and small, are considered and, where possible, acted upon.

Anyone can take advantage of the "perks" of being an ACTIVE member of the Mustang Club by simply letting their actions speak louder than their words -- and their checkbooks. Of course I can't snap my fingers and get Moody rennovated -- it does take money for change like that.

By the way, a bunch of the "inside info" you get here (other than Stallion's good recruiting info) comes directly from those people, who like me, have developed a relationship with the staff and attend Mustang Club events that are open and free to any member, large or small. We share a lot of what we learn, but not everything.
