I just read through this thing. I really don't follow recruiting that much and don't pretend to. One thing that stands out is there is maybe two kids of the twenty without listed offers from other 1-A schools. One of those kids was SMU's first or second commitment; the other is a greyshirt. Now, are all the schools that offered Big XII powerhouses? No. hardly. But look in the mirror, folks. Those schools are the schools we are playing and schools we are competing against in recruiting and on the field: Tulsa, Baylor, UNT, Tulane, Houston, Rice, Ark. State, UTEP, UCF, UAB.

There seems to be an attempt by some to paint this class as filled with a bunch of kids that nobody wanted. That is not the case.

I think it is also worth noting that other schools are now waiting for SMU to offer, and then coming in.

PB and staff are getting a great reputation for doing his homework, scouting, and evaluating talent well. When schools see us offer a kid, they take notice and start looking.

you people have very very low expectations for SMU is the only logical explanation of how someone would get on here and be excited by the sorry bunch of offers these recruits received-some of which btw are VERY VERY questionable. But apparently, you guys are satisfied to just compete with the Rices, Tulsas, UTEPs, Tulane's, NTSU, Arkansas St, Texas St. of the world. Due West about 40 miles there is a program with much higher expectations and results. BTW if you went on the Tulane, Rice, Tulsa, UTEP websites today you'd see their SID claim their school outrecruited SMU for about 5 players each on their list too.

As Todd Dodge pointed out, our coaches don't care how many other schools offered a guy, nor should they. If a kid can play for the Ponies, it doesn't make a bit of difference whether we beat USC or DeVry for his signature.

And JasonB is right, there have been lots of stories about players getting offers from big schools after SMU has gotten in on them early. Some of those players have signed elsewhere, some have stayed with their commitment to SMU. I'm glad to have those who chose to stay.

I knew this would drive you out of the bushes. Did I say this was a great recruiting class? No. Did I even say it was average? No. My point stands; I am sorry it doesn't mesh with the picture you have been painting that we got 20 kids with zero offers from any schools other than the Helen Keller School of the Blind.
