Proposal to Return to Mustang Mania

Why did we simply drop this theme. It was a valuable recognized trademark with product identification in the marketplace. Bumper stickers, T-Shirts, posters with the Mustang Mania logo (which could be modernized if you like) are cheap effective means of showing support for the Program much as the 12th Man trademark has value in the marketplace for A&M. Just as it usually gets comment on this board it would get comment and recognition in the marketplace today. A return of the Mustang Mania sign would be a "Call to Arms" to long lost SMU supporters to take a second look at what is going on at the Hilltop. This is a low cost, cost effective way of promoting and advertising SMU.

I've often wondered this as well. Maybe they're afraid the public will reject it in a "This ain't 1979 and Bennett ain't Ron Meyer and this ain't the SWC anymore" kind of way, and they never thought of it as being taken as a call to arms, but rather an invitation to ridicule. In any event, I can't see any harm in pulling out the old MM Playbook, dusting it off, and giving some things try. The results can't possibly be any worse than what we've got (or don't got) going on right now.

I see where Howie Newman recently saw fit to re-release his song "Mustang Mania" back in 2001. You can still purchase one of his cd's containing that seminal 1978 hit below. Maybe we could get him to write and record an updated version for 2006. (Although personally, I feel the K-heads could wipe the floor with this guy...)

I agree wholeheartedly on this one. Why not issue t-shirts to incoming frosh so they can be "Mustang Maniacs" and get that Mustang Mania campaign revived. Bumper stickers issued to every student at orientation. Send a bumper sticker out to everyone who joins the Mustang Club. Pass them out at games.

And PLEASE...let's start winning most of our home games so people will believe it can be done. Next year's schedule was set up for that purpose.

Tee shirt sales opportunity for someone on this board before the spring game. Maybe a radio station would co-sponsor. Perhaps some of the people on this board could sit together at the spring game and wear the shirts.
