It's good to have a TCU guy commenting on our board. We could have said the same thing about TCU in 1997. You never know.

Not that any of this matters, however, your contention was that they had 4-5 #1 rated players starting. Last time I check #2 wasn't #1. Also Jarrett wasn't one the two highest rated WRrs, he was the #2 athlete and was rated behind 7 WRs according to Rivals. Check your facts before you spout them...things like USC had the best 4 year period of recruitment in history? How can you possibly know that? Modern recruiting fields go back to about 1999.

Never mind...the point is that there have been many top classes that have not produced winners. Oh and I finally found the info I was looking for on classes from 99 forward...USC's class in 99 that would have been seniors for the first championship...ranked 13th. The 01 class that was the backbone of these championships ranked 17th. Sometimes it really does come down to coaching.

Wrong Pal 2001 would have been the redshirt year only pal. Take your tiresome distinctions between athletes and WRs and enjoy yourself. -I always thought there were 2 WRs in every offense and that Jarrett is a First Team All-American WR but hey I might be wrong. Get this -it might be hard to follow. Texas had the best senior class in the game. USC's talent generally comes from younger classes like Jarrett and Bush but they are loaded in those classes-some of the greatest recruiting classes in college football history. Don't they count too. You are arguing an asinine point. Nobody said you can pick a Top 10 based on who finished in the Top 10 in recruiting each year-that's STUPID. But what you can do is look at the Top 10 and see teams almost without exception who recruit at the highest levels of college football. OK Dr. point without significance.

When was the last time SMU put together 5 winning seasons in a row? With one winning season since 1989, its hard to imagine that happening.

Thank you FrogSnob. Yet again you have added absolutely nothing worthwhile to a discussion. I feel dumber having read your worthless, pessimistic post. Your drivel is really getting old.

Now go back to the frog board and play nice with your toad friends.

I currently live in tri-state area. I remember when Dewayne was a senior three years ago in Jersey. Based on publicity, he is the highest recruited player in this area in my stay. The NY dailies actually commented upon his recruitment. He was such a momma's boy, he almost went to Rutgers. EVERY SCHOOL WANTED HIM. To fault USC for not getting a higher rated WR is ridiculous, he walked in and started playing (from day one) so Carroll's coaching of him is not that significant.

this pains me, but gotta go with McClown on this one. Jarrett was high on everyone's list- whether he was 'pure WR' or not. I remember a lot of Left Coasters drooling over the Mike Williams/Jarrett possible combo at WR. Of course

Carroll has been able to assemble talent like no one since John Robinson coached at USC. Of course, some folks thought that it would slow down when Orgeron left Troy to go to Ole Miss (who had a bang up class themselves).

Schaeffer was a coup! I couldn't believe that he turned down Texas and N.C. State for Ole Miss. Orgeron is another one who can't coach, but will soon have Ole Miss in the top 25 because of recruiting.

don't count on it-they play in a league where just about every team had a Top 25 Class.
