SMU TO CLEAN HOUSE!

Postby stangerredblue » Sat Feb 18, 2006 11:20 am

With Copeland on the way out, and a new AD soon to take control.........is it time to clean house at Moody? We all know Moody needs a facelift, but with the disgraceful state of the men's and women's bball programs, is it time for a total makeover? Or does SMU continue down the path of apathy, and leave things as they are?

So after two years you want to dump Tubbs and with a young team on the rise which may yet win the CUSA tournament, you want to dump Rompola. I also believe that Moody houses the offices of the soccer coaches, the tennis coaches, the track coaches, and the golf coaches who have very successful programs going right now and by implication you want to fire them as well. I think a better building at which to direct your frustration is the Perkins Administration Building. I suspect many on this board would like to see that house cleaned.

The women are in 2nd place in CUSA, and have been to the NCAA tournament like 5-6 times since the men's last appearance in 93. If they finish strong this year, they could go dancing again, or at least have a shot at the WNIT, which they played in last year. I wouldn't call them disgraceful.

May yet win the CUSA tourney? Wow, you don't see the glass as half full... completely full and spilling over. Not sure I have heard a more overoptomistic comment about men's hoops in a while on the board.

Learn to read, I was talking about the women's program which is one of the top three teams in CUSA and may very well win the CUSA tournament.

Soccer coaches' offices are in Ford Stadium.

No offense, but be realistic and tap the breaks for a second- firing Rompola, who has produced fairly well would be a mistake. SMU's contending, so fire her? Good logic to reward a coach.

Firing Bennett would send one message: this job is a graveyard. Bennett WANTS to be here, has ties to the area, has the resume and is just getting his players into the system, all the while digging out from a hole that the NCAA started and SMU followed with how many winning seasons since the death penalty? With perceived faculty relations troubles and a apathetic fan base for the most part, SMU is a very tough job. Support Bennett because he's doing his best, bringing in new talent and starting to show results. Support Bennett because if he gets canned in the next year, it's gonna be damn tough to get someone of the quality you want here to follow.

Tubbs is too new to run out without any major reason. He has brought some good talent in like Willingham, the Morris kid and Fall and has started working a deep bench into the game. He's also in building mode.

Firing Bennett now after the way we finished and the way the schedule shapes up for next year would be INSANE!

Bennett has done a good job, he has the football program heading in the right direction for sure. Tubbs needs to be given a chance, the players he has brought in this year are very talented, Willingham was a 4 star coming out of high school, Morris has turned out to be great, Fall is a future NBA prospect, give him a chance he will have a great opportunity to do some good things here.
