My thought: Dykes needs to implement some sort of job sharing plan with Hicks and Brown.
Brown has enormous potential, but he is far from a complete package. He stares down receivers and his ability to read defenses is very limited. Plus, there is no way he makes the two throws in OT.
Forcing teams to prep for both QBs might give the Mustangs an advantage.
Although it will be a rough road: HBU, Tulsa, Uconn & Tulane could be beatable. If SMU could steal another win somewhere...
Do unto others before they do unto you!!

I went to practice the week prior to the TT game and saw them practice that trick play - was at the game and called it out to the SMU fans who were sitting around me and mrs. Dalpony - went in the locker room after the game it was pandemonium - one of my great moments as a Mustang fan

just watched the replay. Brown's longest completion was about 13 yards from the line of Scrimmage on the jump ball to Judah Bell. He also had about a 10 yard completion to West when the field was spread with :01 left in regulation. Otherwise the longest completion from the line of scrimmage were several 6 yard passes including the TD to Robertson. Another downfield throw in the flat was almost picked off and could have returned a long way. Most of his completions were behind the line or 2-3 yard throws. I didn't see him pick up a secondary receiver except maybe that Bell reception. It will be interesting to see how other teams defend him
Interesting Note-Terrence Newman played about 60% of the snaps at DT (and technically as a NG on some snaps). 0 tackles BUT I don't think they ever moved him off the play or got him off his feet. He did a good job gumming up the middle which caused about 4 no gains or tackles for loss. We've seen our interior get completely blown off the ball by Navy in prior years for big gains right up the gut and I think Newman helped stop that.

Thoughts on the game...
We played well, defensed the option better than we have in 20 years, and were fortunate to win...the coaches and players put themselves in the position to win....Hicks showed maturity in coming off the bench PREPARED to play, and he executed that drive flawlessly, and then handled himself with class post game.
It is only one win...it is only one game. But it was a BIG win and a needed relief from getting curb-stomped again.
Watch for the defense against HBU...Defense takes effort and focus. We'll see how much this win really means by how the intensity on defense is against a lesser opponent, and if SMU really can handle a small taste of success.
I was at the game in Lubbock...it was epic, and stunningly quiet except for a screaming bunch of SMU fans in the corner of Jones Stadium. The Tech crowd actually applauded their team after the game.
One thing to remember is ED fumbling the ball into the end zone and catching the bounce before it went out...the kick return is moot if he doesn't score. The other memory is my Tech roommate at Seminary buying the chicken fried steak at the Rock Inn cafe on the way back to Ft Worth. Epic.

I noticed him playing a ton and plugging things up. It will be interesting to see if he was a sacrificial lamb for this game and will be redshirted. He doesn't get much penetration right now, which is really important for Kane's defense.

Watching the game on TV reminded how annoying it was to have Tiki call every play from the sideline. I didn't doze off between snaps.

I agree, Stallion. I thought he did a great impersonation of a bolder. Didn't move or get moved too much. At this point, holding tight and clogging it up works for me.
