I think Sledge is the most overrated player on the team. The only way to get this offense out of its perennial last place in Total Offense is to get some homerun threats that can get more than 8.5 yards per catch and ZERO TDs on the season. That is NOT acceptable. He must be a great guy-because all you guys seem to love him-but he ain't performing at a high level l on the field and lack of production at that position is hurting this team.
Good god, sniff your Cheerio's before you have breakfast, dude. Nobody ever said Sledge is Jerry Rice. But he's a former HS quarterback who walked on and made himself into a useful receiver. He's not going to be an all-America, but he's got some value. Surely you're not saying the WRs got zero TDs this year, are you? Check out the end of the UAB game -- you'll love it. See, Jerad Romo threw the ball into the end zone in the waning seconds, and Bobby Chase -- he's a wide receiver -- caught it. Not only that, we won the game. It was swell. Chase and Pellerin got into the end zone more than once. Do we need more playmakers? Sure -- everyone this side of USC does. But where you get off ripping Sledge is beyond me. He's a hard-working guy who has better speed than anyone gives him credit for -- he might be our fastest WR outside of Givens and/or Sanders. "What kind of weirdo school are they running over there in Fort Worth?"

he's a starter-he earned a scholarship-he deserves to be analyzed like any other starter. look I probably wouldn't have brought him up but he seems to have so many buddies on this board that like to talk about how great he is when that is one of the weakest positions on the field for SMU. Out of the Top 50 Receivers in CUSA Sledge ranks 48th in Yards Per Catch and 1 of the other guys played RB. He's also one of only 2 of the Top 50 who played more than 5 games and failed to score a TD.
I don't know the guy, I don't know how many plays he was out there for when we were passing, but I don't ever rememeber him dropping any balls that should have been catches either. He might of, but I don't remember cussing his name.
And I would guess he was prolly our 3rd or 4th look when romo was trying to find someone open on a pass play. And two 8.9 catches sounds like a first down. Not saying I think he should be starting or that I want a whole team just like him, just saying i don't remember him muffing any catches. Hope Colombus, Sanders and Burley can come out, make some plays and make the coaches think about who should be starting at our "weakest positions on the field".
as for buddies... i was a chris foster supporter at the start of last season... sledge didn't see the field on offense (Texas A&M) until foster was not producing like he had the previous year. then when sledge was starting he rotated time with foster at the 3rd wr spot. so to drop soome stat that he was number 48 out of the top 50 is not accurate of the production he had with the amount of time he was on the field and we were throwing the ball. i'm not saying hes TO or Jerry Rice, but he is young and showed signs of becoming a good 2nd or 3rd option. So why would we move him to defense when he is one of the few wr's who can actually catch the ball. ![]()
