I can’t stand it when a top flight recruit leaves our state and goes elsewhere, especially when it’s a school in OK, but I’m actually starting to feel sorry for Rhett Bomar. The way he's being hassled is a complete joke. From what I hear, he’s a good kid who’s finding out the hard way that Oklahoma is a godforsaken place where Texans should never go.
Bomar arrested at the Ford Center

Starting quarterback Rhett Bomar was cited Friday for being a minor in possession of alcohol after an undercover police officer spotted him drinking at the Oklahoma City / New Orleans Hornets basketball game at the Ford Center, police said Saturday.
Bomar, 20, was sitting with several friends when an officer saw him pouring beer into a cup, said Oklahoma City Police Sgt. J.F. Balderrama.
"Apparently they were all sitting in the same section, and Mr. Bomar was taking the beer, putting it in a white cup and taking sips of it during the game," Balderrama said
After the game, Bomar was approached by officers and acknowledged having several drinks, Balderrama said.
Bomar was taken into custody and transported to the police station, where he posted a bond and was released, Balderrama said.
Bomar pleaded not guilty to the misdemeanor charge, and a municipal court arraignment date was set for 8 a.m. on May 15, according to a clerk at the Oklahoma City Municipal Court.
Sooners head coach Bob Stoops is aware of the incident, but declined to comment publicly, said Kenny Mossman, OU's associate athletic director for communications.
"He (Stoops) will handle it internally," Mossman said.
Bomar was cited for the same offense in September in Norman after police responding to a party said they found him holding a mixed drink. That complaint later was dismissed for a lack of evidence.

I wonder how the first one got dropped for lack of evidence. He was standing there holding a mixed drink, sounds like possesion at the least to me.

As much as I like to laugh at the fine folks at OU (because, after all, they're at OU), this is a non-story, isn't it? I mean, I know I NEVER had a beer before I was 21, but I'm sure there are some out there who have. I expect Coach Stoops will say "don't do it again," make him run a few sprints and that will be the end of it.

The OU Department of Public Safety is absolutly out of control.
My daughter, who attends OU, (I know I know, she shouldn't, but she does) got a parking ticket for parking in front of the Department of Public Safety while she went inside to get a parking permit. She was cited for not having a parking permit.
Just send 'da money.

Come on, the point is that he is a 20 year old college student and he was enjoying a beer at a bball game. Woopity-doo. And it was probably that nasty Okie near-beer at that.

Clearly some officer had a desire to "get" him. He poured part someone else's beer into his cup. Its against the law and he is guilty if the charges are proven. Holding a beer and drinking a beer are two different things. Example Momma says, "Hold my beer junior while I light my cigarette." I imagine that in parts of Texas and Oklahoma that is a relatively common occurance.

Yeah, because college kids don't drink.

yup. it's ironic that the star QB recruit for a football mad recruit could actually be held accountable on breaking the law. I don't like Bomar, primarily for his brashness, but the kid has been caught red handed twice. Is it the police force's fault that the kid was drinking at the game?
Remember Stoops ran off Brent Rawls after he got so drunk as a RS-FR that he fell off a tailgate and got a concussion. There was a time that no one got in trouble that played for OU and the Sooners were crucified for that. Now the star of the team gets busted for breaking the law and you go off on that. Even if 'everyone's doing it' ....
