Great move by the Mustang braintrust. I live in Orlando and have been pretty impressed with what UCF has done over the last several years in basketball and football. It's nice to see all of the positive buzz about this hiring on the board. I hope Orsini doesn't disappoint.
My sense is that Steve will revitalize our base (students, alumni and hard core fans) and reach out to the Dallas community. With the Cowboys move to Arlington, SMU is "The Game in Town"
As for expectations, I suspect he will have a short leash on the coaches and adminstration both. He now owns our challenges, which can be overcome. The university, campus, FB stadium, Dallas, money, etc. can be challenged into a driving force within CUSA, if not the state of Texas. We have the ingredients. Let's let the chef cook it up.
The things I like about him are numerous, but in particular, it sounds like he understands the idea of spending money to make money. The early report on PonyFans.com (I don't remember who wrote it) quoted some story as saying he had increased spending for every sport. My hope is that he will do the same here.
More than anything, I hope the reports of his aggressive marketing and fund-raising tactics prove accurate. I'd like nothing more than to see him raise a ton of money and use it on marketing, saturating the Dallas community with ads on radio, TV and in print, as well as on billboards, banners, buses, water towers -- EVERYWHERE. Welcome home to Dallas, Steve "What kind of weirdo school are they running over there in Fort Worth?"

Wonder if they've bought his daughter Amy an SMU cheerleader outfit to wear today during the news conference? ![]()
When they are four, you can dress them like that and bribe them with a cookie. Good luck getting a nine or ten year old to do that.
Didn't we do the power conference thing with Copeland? No offense to Copeland, but this hire is a breath of fresh air and long overdue. From the articles, it sounds like Orsini looks for ways to get things done as opposed to excuses not to get things done, which is what we have been looking for.

doesn't care who wins. -- Dwight D. Eisenhower
Good Article worth the read....I like him.
Guess what? She was at today's news conference and dressed in an SMU cheerleader's outfit! Attagirl, Angela!!!!!!
