Reggie Dupard Named 2021 Silver Anniversary Mustang Honoree

DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU Lettermen's Association's Board of Directors and its Silver Anniversary Mustang (SAM) Award Committee will honor Reggie Dupard as the recipient of the 2021 SAM Award. Dupard played football for SMU from 1982-85, helping lead the Mustangs to an SWC Championship and a National Championship in 1982. He earned three straight All-Conference honors from 1983-85 and was named an All-American at running back in 1985. Dupard is one of only two players in school history to rush for over 1,000 yards in three consecutive seasons and is still the school's third-leading rusher.

Dupard's successful career at SMU led him to the National Football League where he was a first-round draft pick for the New England Patriots in 1986. After playing five years in the NFL for both New England and Washington, Dupard retired and returned to SMU to finish his degree.

Over the last 22 years, he has dedicated his time to helping high school students in marginalized communities achieve their college and career goals. His community involvement includes serving as the co-founder of Fit and Faithful Living, an organization dedicated to assisting and supporting youth and families by providing education, leadership skills, and health and wellness services.

Dupard was inducted into the SMU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2016. He and his wife LaChanda have two children, Jonathan and Rachel.

Each year, the SMU Lettermen's Association Board of Directors awards the SAM Award to a former letterwinner at least 25 years removed from their time on campus. The recipient has brought honor to SMU, made contributions that have lasting and positive effects on his or her fellow citizens, and has been a model citizen in his or her community.

The presentation will take place on Thursday, March 3, at halftime of the SMU men's basketball game against Cincinnati. Tip is TBD at Moody Coliseum. Tickets are available at SMUMustangs.com/Tickets.
