at their new indoor facility on campus in Orlando. Friend of mine has a son ( Kyle Israel ) who is the backup QB, and I was struck by how organized the two hour workout was. Even the ball boys had a printed script of the schedule.
Outside of the facility UCF is putting up their version of Ford on campus, while simultaneously building a 10,000 seat basketball stadium and dormitory that will house both athletes and general students.Just as a heads up, this happened during Orsini's watch, as he was able to promote UCF to the locals and alumni. Winning football last year didn't hurt either.
UCF has lost most of their WRs and experience on the OL, but have a great TB and decent depth across the defense. O'Leary doesn't permit any player to believe he has a job locked...consequently the practice ( pads only ) was very intense, and it was interesting to see a two year starter ( QB Moffitt ) get jerked for a bad pass with the first team. BTW, second unit took about 30% of the snaps.
After the practice, QB coach and OC came over to talk with my friend, and I was introduced as an SMU alum...their comment was that we had a good season, and that they were looking forward to playing us in the coming seasons...then the OC said we might see them before conference play if DeMyron goes"large this year." Interesting that they knew of him.
I am more impressed with what Orsini did in Orlando...hadn't been there in about a year, and things have ramped up...looking forward to a little of that Mockingbird in the next few years.
long live Mike Livingston...
