My guess would be that the B1G stays with divisions by simply moving Illinois & Northwestern into the eastern division. Their approach will be interesting to see how they schedule going forward. They currently play 9 games with 6 against division foes and 3 crossover games. My guess is they might go to 10 conference games with 8 division and 2 crossover games. In the recent past, Michigan, Michigan State and Purdue have all stopped playing Notre Dame and only Ohio State plays them this year, but I know Purdue has agreed to a multi year series with ND and Michigan State and Indiana also had plans for series with the Irish. It will be interesting to see whether any of that changes.

With all the talk of Stanford associated with the ACC and now even the Big XII, if none of that happens...what's next? I assume this proposed conference an Oregon State fan posted might be a viable "fall back" plan but have to wonder what the PAC-4 would do for the 2024 season? With only 4 remaining PAC schools, would they be able to retain any of the PAC's revenue earned in 2023 and who would be on the hook for the Comcast $50 million overpayments? I would imagine every member of the PAC-12 that benefited from those overpayments will remain exposed to that debt, although roughly $4 million each isn't a very big deal with the numbers that are being floated. The only sure bet is that there are a lot of lawyers racking up billable hours as this latest round of realignment drags on.

A conference needs 7 teams to be recognized by the NCAA, so they have to expand or disband by then.

That's actually not a horrible conference. I'd be happier in the ACC (especially since I live in the Carolina's now) but the 'American' conference would actually be an apropos name.
