Re: NFL tells UH to shut down Oilers-inspired uniformsThat stinks. Those unis were cool and its absurd that the irrelevant Tennessee Titans get to sit on that iconic Houston look and deny it to everyone else.

You'd be surprised how many marks from days gone by are still not just owned but actively protected by the successor entities. MLB protects all of them (or at least did when I worked on that stuff a couple decades ago)--Brooklyn Dodgers, Boston Braves, all of them.
Re: NFL tells UH to shut down Oilers-inspired uniformsJust change the Houston to Cougars, and don’t call them “Love ya blue” uniforms. The rest of the uni is too generic and widely used to be any infringement.
Dave Smith’s unis with silver helmets, gray pants, and red jerseys were Ohio State inspired. Iowa and Hayden Fry stole the Steeler unis. Our Dallas unis remind you of the Cowboys. May the forth be with us.
