Paul Finebaum IDs ACC team "slipping into mediocrity"

From athlonsports.com:

Paul Finebaum Names College Football Powerhouse ‘Slipping Into Mediocrity’

On Friday's episode of ESPN's "First Take," Paul Finebaum spoke alongside sports betting analyst Joe Fortenbaugh about a number of college football programs and previewed some of the hotter matchups to start the 2024 season.

At the tail end of the segment, Finebaum boldly labeled the Clemson Tigers as potentially fading away as an elite program in the nation.

When Fortenbaugh spoke about the potential impact of a loss for Clemson in its season-opening clash with Georgia and a loss to ACC foe Florida State later on, Finebaum abruptly added he forgot Clemson still played football based on the program's recent disappearance from the headlines.

Finebaum is nothing more than a long time radio rabble rouser who got picked by ESPN to do th3 same for the SECN. My guess is that he is razzing Clemson so much over the past few months to make Coemson boosters think more like FSU boosters, even to the point of running off an excellent HC.

SEC hostilities to the ACC began with the ACCN. ESPN had promised the ACC it winked look very carefully with the hope of stating an ACCN before ESON got 100% of SEC rights., When the SEC was negotiating with ESPN< ESPN told the SEC it would not stat any other conference network - just SECN. So when the SACCN was announced the SEC was furious. and in true football factory thinking blamed the ACC and not ESPN. Then the SEC began pushing ESPN to help it take apart the ACC, adding the ACC programs it wanted, thereby not costing ESPN any of its most valuable non-SEC teams. And because FSU and Clemson have won football National Championships in recent years, the SEC wants those schools because the SEC thinks that no league has the right to exist in the South and win football NCs except the SEC.

Finebauym plays his role in all that stuff.

Overlooking whether Finebaum is annoying :D ... this jumped out: "And because FSU and Clemson have won football National Championships in recent years, the SEC wants those schools because the SEC thinks that no league has the right to exist in the South and win football NCs except the SEC."

That may be true, but is there any weight to the idea that Florida, plus nearby powers like Georgia, South Carolina, want to keep FSU and Clemson out so is to avoid weakening their hold on fans and recruits in the Southeast? I have read where Florida, in particular, has adamantly opposed any effort to add FSU, or if the option arose, Miami.
