Was that post-injury rust?
Something was up. Sure didn't look like the guy we saw last year.
Also: credit to Nevada. They played hard and pretty well.

Their DBs were really good, for sure.

Had to have been some degree of rust. You could not have had a worse start than that pick to open the game. Not a great throw. Stone could have had at least 2 or 3 more INT's last night. Next week will be a nice tune up game to hopefully be better prepared for real competition.

If Stone puts a little more on that 1st deep ball and leads his guy a little more towards the post that might have been 6 points but he had several poor throws in that 1st half. Much better in the 2nd half and those 2 deep balls to Maryland were MONEY!

I am starting to doubt if Stone is the guy long term for this team. There is no doubt that he is a great athlete and has a great arm, but I have doubts of him running an actual offense. Far too often he is trying to play hero ball and doing his best to imitate his hero Johnny Football, which Stone is not him. Going back to the games Jennings played and especially in his first start in the AAC championship the offense looked more fluid. I know Jennings had a few turnovers, but to go in on the road, in a championship game, and in bad weather on his first start was a challenge enough, yet he got the win. In these games watching Jennings including last night he looks much calmer and takes what the defense gives him. Even last night his 2nd drive was the only real bright spot of the first half. Granted Stone pulled it out in the end, but he still continues to do too much on his own. I think Stone has always been able to get away with his athleticism playing against inferior opponents in HS (name a TAPPS qb that has panned out) and even last year in a down AAC. I think this year especially in the ACC playing against better quality opponents this playing style is going to get exposed. I am also curious how the team feels about the two.
Also when has a younger backup qb been named a Co-Captain with the veteran starting QB? I am curious to see how this plays out this year once we start getting into conference play. Will Stone prove he is the guy or will he be passed by Jennings? I will not be surprised if this play continues Jennings will end up our guy by the end of the year.

We will have to see what not only Stone, but the coaching staff as well, learned from last night. He seemed to underthrow a lot of the time but at the end he was spot on. Next week's game (hopefully) will be a light scrimmage and an opportunity for both QBs to work on timing and execution. I don't know if Stone will be the guy for the entire season but I'm always happy to see the backup get snaps. There is no substitute for game experience.

Right, and I wonder how the whole vibe of the first half would have changed if we'd jumped out to an early lead and played basically from the start with a little swagger, rather than sleeping through the first 3 quarters. How often have we heard a basketball player say that after hitting a tough early shot, it seemed like every shot was going in? If Stone connects on that first deep ball, and especially if it ended up in the end zone, I wonder if the game might have been entirely different.

Also, that was great coverage and a hell of a pick by the Nevada corner on that play. Tip of the hat.

I didn't see either QB look for secondary receivers. The plan seemed to be to try to force the throw even into tight coverage. If that is the game plan, our receivers need to get better separation. RJ was able to do that with LB coverage in the second half.

I think it is way too early to say Stone is not the guy, or that Lashlee needs to go, etc. You don't really know what you have until you play at least 3 games. That goes for Nevada, too. It's way too early to assume this is the same Nevada team as the last 2 years.

Totally agree. I don't know why everyone wants to overreact. If we get shelled by BYU and/or TCU, then let's talk. But Jimminy Crickets calm down!

Oh yes it was ugly but think back 10-20 years ago. We are so much better now. This is a step and at least the team woke up. Great touchback. Great pass plays and effort in the 4th QTR.

Let's be positive till we can't be. One win and we gripe. UGLY but a W.

See you on the Boulevard. Come to the corner of Bishop and Binkley.

Look for a red mailbox.

Great analogy! :) In some of these threads, our fans sound like FSU fans. Let's prime the engine this Saturday with HCU and be ready to blow up the next couple of challengers in the ring!
